Hi I'm Derek & I love Colorado.

I love the outdoors, love my family and being a Mormon rocks.

About Me

I have been married almost 20 years to the greatest woman on the face of the earth and am a very proud father of three children. We have lived in Southern Utah, the East Coast of the U.S. and now Colorado for the past few years. We love the mountains and the climate that Colorado offers. We love to hike, camp, hunt, mountain bike, ski, enjoy the outdoors, travel as a family, play sports, watch sports and movies together and read excellent books.

Why I am a Mormon

I love being a Mormon because the foundation of faith and knowledge the Church of Jesus Christ offers brings peace, joy, happiness and hope for a better life. By following the principles of Jesus Christ, I have been taught thousands of different ways I can better myself as a husband, a father, a son, a brother, and a better person. The Church of Jesus Christ has taught me that putting myself second and serving others brings the greatest joys and happiness offered in this world. Jesus Christ has set the example and has asked us to follow him even as imperfect as we may be. By striving to follow Christ's example, I have been taught wonderful examples of patience, temperance, charity, love, and humility that I strive to emulate. When I was a teenager, I read the Book of Mormon and through simple prayer asked Our Heavenly Father if the book was true scripture. I received an answer through the Holy Ghost with warm feelings of comfort, faith, confidence, and love. I later repeated these steps inquiring as to the truthfulness of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Joseph Smith as a true prophet of God, and our modern day prophets. On each occurrence and many times since, the Holy Ghost has confirmed and re-confirmed the truthfulness of these entities. I am so grateful that we have a living prophet on the earth today who leads us and relays God's message to us His children. Our Prophet Thomas S. Monson leads with love, kindness and sets the example of service we all should strive to follow.

How I live my faith

One of the greatest opportunities I have had serving in the church is working with the youth, ages 12 - 18. These young men and young women are incredible examples of what following the example of Jesus Christ can do for one's life. These young people have the courage to withstand the barrage of temptations that exist in the world today such as the use of alcohol, use of illegal drugs, committing premarital sex, and many other choices that cause unhappiness and destruction. Watching these young people make good choices with their lives, inspires me to keep the commandments in moments of temptation. These young men and young women have incredible goals to achieve excellence in the classroom, on the athletic fields, in activities such as band and drama. It's an honor to be a part of their lives and watch them work so hard to follow the example of Jesus Christ while performing miracles in their lives as well as being a beacon of light for those around them. One scripture from the Book of Mormon states: "...by small and simple things are great things brought to pass;..." I believe the lives of these youth are a powerful example of this scripture brought to life. Through the example of these youth, many of their friends, teammates, workmates, siblings, are making important choices by striving to follow their friend's examples.
