Hi I'm Bill

I joined the U.S. Air Force when I was 19. I left my home in Manhattan Beach, in order to start my own life as a Mormon.

About Me

After serving 4 years in the military, during which time I met the woman I would marry, I married in the temple and we went to Brigham Young University using the GI Bill. We had 2 children while at BYU. I came out as an Industrial Arts High School teacher. I did that job for 1 year and due to economic reasons, I went to work for a defense manufacturer. I have owned my own auto repair shop, I have worked for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Department, and I currently am a service advisor for a large family-owned car dealership. My wife, Dottie, was able to be a full-time mom and now is a full time grandmother. We have raised 4 children, and all 4 of our children have married in the temple and 3 have served full-time missions with the church. We will have our 14th grandchild this year 2011. Life is good.

Why I am a Mormon

I wasn't looking for the true church of God. It presented itself to me. I was at a bowling alley with my friends when I spotted a cute girl I had known in grammar school out with her cousins also bowling. We paired up together and she became my girlfriend. I had so much respect for her family that I wanted to know more about their beliefs. They introduced me to the missionaries. It made so much sense to me. I fasted and prayed and concluded that Joseph Smith was indeed a true prophet as he claimed to be. It took a leap of faith back in 1969 to leave my mom and dad and brother and sister to join this church. Dad said I couldn't be a Mormon under his roof. I joined the Air Force behind their back. My brother told me that my dad cried when he learned I had done that. The Viet Nam War was in full swing. The first 3 days I had to question what kind of crazy thing this was that I had done to my life. While at Lackland Air Force Base, I hooked up with the local branch of the church. Soon I was finally baptized after waiting over a year since I had first desired it. It was the best decision I ever made.

How I live my faith

Life in the church has been fun and fulfilling. I have been serving in the Scouting program for the better part of my life. I was not a member of the church growing up, but I was a scout from 8 years old to 18 years. I love camping, hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, rappelling, biking, canoeing, white water, and all that scouting entails. I love woodworking, home repairs, gardening, and model railroading. I love my wife and my family. We all live close enough to each other. We have great times together. It is such a great blessing to keep the Sabbath Day holy. Sunday is my favorite day and it truly is a restful day. I've had opportunities to serve in many capacities within the church.
