Hi I'm Dan Collins

I grew up in San Diego CA, I'm a father to 13 kids, I'm a surfer, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was raised in a dual religious household because my dad was mormon and my mom Catholic. Both were determined to raise us in their respective religions so my siblings and I attended church and other activities at both churches. This made for an interesting religious experience while growing up and allowed me to compare and contrast both religions. By the time I was 12, my mom through lots of love and teaching from family and others, joined the church. A year later our family was sealed together in the Los Angeles CA temple. As a teenager, I met my future wife at a church youth dance. Little did I know at the time she asked me to dance that we would marry and have 13 children together. I served a 2 year mission for the church in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania in the early 80's and married my sweetheart shortly thereafter. We have 8 natural born children, two of which are married, one adopted child, 3 soon to be adopted children, 1 foster child, and 3 grandchildren. Our whole family loves the beach and all of the boys and I love to surf and skateboard together. I feed all those kids by working as a commercial painting contractor.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because my dad had the courage to raise his kids in this church against the wishes of my mom. Being raised as a Mormon and a Catholic, one would think this would confuse rather than clarify, but I feel like I had a clear vision of the truth and a testimony of the Gospel early on in my youth. That testimony was strengthened as I served as a missionary in Pittsburgh PA, because I saw first hand how the restored Gospel changes lives. As their lives changed, so did mine as I learned and taught the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Now as a husband and father, I feel so blessed to have the restored Gospel in my life. To have the knowledge of Jesus Christ as my Savior, to have the Book of Mormon to inspire us, to have living prophets to guide us, to have the truth to live by, makes me wonder what life would be like without it.

How I live my faith

Living as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is definetly not a "Sunday only" religion, it is a way of life. Some might think our religion is restrictive in its requirements and demanding in its time committments, but I look at it as an opportunity and blessing.
