Hi I'm Matthew

I love small-band concerts, I'm a road cyclist, I am a born and raised Texan. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college student in Austin, where I was born and raised. I have a passion for service work and am currently serving as a missionary in the great Salt Lake West Mission. I enjoy the rush and feel of riding my motorcycle on the open freeway. I have a Specialized road bike that I use to cycle the Hill Country in my free time and often use it to commute between work, school and home. My favorite week of the year is SXSW (music festival) - nothing like it. I love flying and travelling whenever I have the means. My favorite passion by far is Texas Longhorn football. There is nothing like a cool breeze from the west while watching a night game at Darrell Memorial Stadium. Hook 'Em Horns!

Why I am a Mormon

I first invited the Mormon missionaries into my home two summers to debate them on their views. I talked to them about the things I had read and watched online about the church, and what I thought of their practices. They explained to me what their actual beliefs were and answered my questions. Although I honestly was not interested in changing, I invited them to keep returning, each time with a new lesson. After six months of procrastinating their challenges to pray I took up the missionaries offer to ask Heavenly Father if the Book of Mormon is true. When I did I experienced the Holy Ghost's awesome confirmation in a feeling that I could not confuse or self-create. Today, I know that the Book of Mormon is special and holy, and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is Christ's true, and only, church on Earth. The greatest, consistent happiness has come to me as a active participant of this Church, more than the other churches I've attended or as an independent.

How I live my faith

I do a lot of interacting with the homeless in downtown Austin, and I also do work with environmental groups to help Mother Gaia. In church related work, I work as a full-time missionary.
