Hi I'm Geoffrey

I work as a civil designer in the energy industry. I enjoy reading and writing fiction, classical music, & cooking. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Texas but have lived most of my life in Colorado. I love to spend time with my family, especially my nieces and nephews, and my many wonderful friends. In my spare time I enjoy reading, mostly fiction and mostly children's and young adult fiction at that, as the stories and characters are generally more fun. In non fiction I like to read about science and history. I also like reading the dictionary and learning new words. I like most forms of music but my listening preferences are classical, folk and bluegrass. I enjoy walking in the rain but prefer to enjoy snow from inside a house looking out. I enjoy cooking and trying out new recipes or visiting new restaurants with friends. I enjoy exploring side streets and alleys in whatever city I'm in, and I like museums. I like to write, and am working on a couple of novels for both adults and children.

Why I am a Mormon

I don't remember a time when i did not believe in God, but I didn't always believe in religion. While in high school my grandmother passed away, and that started me asking questions about eternity and my role in it. My other grandmother and my best friend introduced me to the Gospel, and I was baptized shortly after graduation. That is why I joined the church. What keeps me here is the doctrines taught, and the answers to not only the questions I had as a teenager, but also the questions I have now. The scriptures provide those answers and they provide comfort and encouragement and strength to carry on when that thing we call "life" gets trying, confusing, disappointing and disheartening. Not all my questions have definitive answers - not at this time at least - but always through the study of the words of God, I can achieve peace and assurance that the answers are there, and a very loving and very real God cares for me and is guiding me in the paths which will lead me to the understanding I seek.

How I live my faith

I have had many opportunities to serve in the church through what the Church terms "callings" - church responsibilities given to her members - I have grown in understanding and the ability to help others receive their own answers to life's questions. I have worked with different ages, from toddler to teen to adult, teaching and leading in the different organizations of the church. I have felt much joy through my service in the church and I have learned to step outside my own struggles and see the struggles of others, not just at church, but all around me, and to see what I have in common with those in my community, so that I may extend a helping hand or words of encouragement to others.
