Hi I'm Brian

I'm a Mechanical Engineer. My wife and I joined the church together while I was in college. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I married my high school sweetheart after my first year of college. We have three energetic children that keep us on our toes. I love hiking, snowboarding, and the outdoors in general. My newest hobby is running. My goal is to run a half marathon, and then who knows, I might try for the full marathon afterwards.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up going to another church, but lost interest sometime during junior high. As the years went by, I decided that I didn't know weather God existed or not. My wife believed in God and our conversations about religion were sometimes tense. One day, we went to a work Christmas party for my new job. My wife and I sat by ourselves (we are both extremely shy). After 10 minutes or so, completely out of character, my wife pointed across the room to another couple sitting by themselves and said, "We should go and sit with them." We went and sat with them, and after the party, we decided that we should try to hang out, since we did not know any other married couples. At work, I noticed that my friend was different. He didn't lose his cool like the rest of us, he never cussed and he didn't work on Sundays. I found out that it was because of his beliefs. I had not met anyone that lived what they believed quite like he did. We hung out often, and on one occasion my wife mentioned that she was having trouble finding a church that she liked. Our friends said she could come with them, and she agreed. During the gospel doctrine class my wife asked a lot of questions (her sister was a member and her family was not happy about it). The teacher offered to come over with the missionaries and answer any questions that she had. My wife asked me to listen with her so she would not be the only non-member in the discussion. As they talked, the things they taught made sense. The doctrines of the church were the only ones that I had heard that showed that God loves us all. I was interested to hear more, but I did not yet believe. We met with the missionaries many times, but during one lesson while watching a film about Christ, a thought came into my head that I should be baptized. The thought was followed by a warm feeling in my chest. I thought wow maybe I really should get baptized. The feeling came again even stronger. I knew it was true, so I joined the church.

How I live my faith

I get to teach some of the young children in the church. It is sometimes a challenge to get them to pay attention for the entire lesson, but they are very smart and always seem to learn and remember more than I think that they will. I learn a lot focusing on the basics as I prepare the lessons. I am also in charge of member cleaning assignments. I come to church each Saturday (every third month) and make sure that everyone knows what they need to do. I also usually bring my two boys so they can learn to help take care of the church. The last time we went there were some kids playing in the nursery and my boys were going to play too. After a few minutes, my oldest son came to find me, and when he did he said, "Dad, Can I help clean the church too?".
