Hi I'm John Sachs

Hi, I am a Mormon convert. I joined the Church as a result of my attempt to disprove the Gospel but was baptized on Jan. 1, 1972

About Me

I ride motorcycles for relaxation and utility. My primary mode of transportation is a Honda VTR1000 and a BMW R1150RS. I am married for almost 40 years to a wonderful woman. She has given us 5 children, who are adults now with families of their own, making us grandparents of 18 grandchildren!! I enjoy working with my hands, repairing things that are broken, or creating things from wood. My latest project had me renovating our two bathrooms, with the master bath now a walk-in shower, both in tile!! I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado, which is a teacher prep school. I didn't know that when I earned my Business Administration degree from them, because now, after a change of career, I am a teacher at the high school level teaching computers and business courses.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a baptized member because I originally started out to attempt to find errors and conditions for which I could find untrue about the church and its doctrine. I met this young woman who was a member of the church. She indicated that her parents would like her to marry someone who was a member of the church. Notice that it was not her stance because she used her parents as the source of that requirement! While we were apart, she back in her home town and me out to sea with the US Navy, I read the Book of Mormon that she sent me prior to my departure. She was not aware that I was reading all of the church scriptures, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price, the New Testament, and the book that brought it all together for me, A Marvelous Work and a Wonder. Again, my intent was to find faults, but as I read, I slowly began to be touched by the Spirit and began to see the truth of the gospel in those books. I returned from my 3 month sea tour with the US Navy ready to be baptized!! I didn't reveal this desire to my soon to be wife, because I wanted to surprise her in person. I didn't reveal it immediately, expecting her parents to begin questioning my intent and desires surrounding their belief in Jesus Christ. I waited, but no one mentioned a thing!! I guess they were attempting to be sensitive to my lack of knowledge! I finally quoted a verse of scripture from the Book of Mormon from Second Nephi. Everyone stopped doing what they were doing and just looked at me. The most surprised was my soon to be wife. I pulled her aside and expressed my feelings about the gospel and my sincerest desire to be baptized. She was certainly surprised, not expecting that course of action at all. I know the gospel is true, that Jesus Christ is our Savior. The Book of Mormon testifies of this truth throughout its pages. The challenge is now for you to discover for yourself!

How I live my faith

I have served in various capacities in the many wards and branches I have lived. I have worked with youth organizations at the branch, ward, and stake levels. I have served with the youth as a Bishop. The greatest calling in the church! Working with the youth is challenging but always rewarding. I have served as a counselor to two Bishops. I have served in the stake organizations serving as a stake missionary, a high councilor, and a technology specialist. I have served in the primary organization as a primary teacher and nursery assistant. I have served as a home teacher to many wonderful families and individuals, some with great testimonies and others that are struggling, both spiritually and temporally. The gospel is a gospel of service, whether in the church or out. I have worked with the scouting organizations for both the cub scouts and boys scouts supported by the wards I have lived.
