Hi I'm Emily

I'm a full-time mom raising five young children. I grew up in California, but now live near the Rocky Mountains.

About Me

While I am now raising a young family of five children, I have had many different experiences with people and culture through my previous studies and professional experiences. I enjoy using my language skills of Spanish, French and Japanese, but am most interested in learning Mandarin Chinese. I love to learn about all different peoples and cultures because we are all one family of children of God. In my spare time, I enjoy reading (usually historical fiction and biograhpical novels), exercising, visiting with friends, playing the piano and singing. Recently, I have really enjoyed organizing high school and family reunions--getting people together to renew old ties.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a home where we discussed many different philosophies and ideas about life. I was exposed to all kinds of religious thought through my home, school and other social interactions. As I entered my teenage years, I began to seriously question the existence of God, wondering if there was something or someone I could place faith in. As I began to pray openly and honestly, I felt that someone was listening to me. I didn't understand who or what it was at first, but gradually the light of God turned on in my life. From that time until now, I have had multiple experiences with Deity. I have felt Heavenly Father guiding me into personal paths of truth, light and happiness. Eventually, through seeking forgiveness for my own sins and seeking to forgive others in my life, I have discovered the power of Jesus Christ. Over time, I have come to recognize my own need for a Savior and the reality of His redemption. I have felt His power work in my life, to make things so much better than in the past. Perhaps, similar to the many people of non-Christian background whom I taught as a missionary in Asia, I have been led from first believing in Heavenly Father, then understanding that redemption comes through His Son Jesus Christ and, finally, that God has established His church to provide saving ordinances so that we can live with Him again as families for eternity.

How I live my faith

The greatest evidence of my faith is how I treat my children each day. It is difficult to leave the prestige and accolades of the professional world to stay home with my children full-time, but I know that I am doing God's work as I give my time and greatest efforts to helping them learn to be independent and happy. Everyday, I seek God's help to be patient enough and to have inspiration to tailor my teaching to their particular needs. Many, many times I have been reminded through God's spirit that I am doing His work in raising these souls. I know that in losing myself in the service of my children, I am becoming much more that I started out to be. Parenting has the potential to change not only the children into much better souls, but the parents, too. I am so thankful that God has trusted me enough to raise these children.
