Hi I'm Brian Long

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was raised a member of the church, but like everyone else, it was important that I discover for myself whether this church's claims that it is the only true church were actually true. As I prepared to accept my duty, as a young man in the Church of Jesus Christ, to serve a mission, I asked the hard questions: How do I know that the Book of Mormon is actually scripture from our Father in Heaven; How do I know that my Father in Heaven not only loves me, but actually knows that I exist; that the Church that Joseph Smith founded is actually the true church of Our Savior Jesus Christ? these questions had to be answered before I entered adulthood: I couldn't very well serve the LORD If I didn't know for sure that the things I was teaching were true. The first important thing I did was to develop the desire to know. It became the most important thing in my life at the time. through difficult prayer I was given a witness from the Holy Ghost of the truthfullness of Joseph Smith's mission in life. while I know full well he was just a man, the work that he did was of Divine purpose. From this witness, I also came to know that the Book of Mormon is indeed a second witness of our Savior Jesus Christ and his mission on earth. Only divine revelation could have prompted the writings within it's covers. Only the Holy Ghost can testify of its divinity and truthfulness, and I received that witness.

Why I am a Mormon

I am an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because the Holy Ghost has testified to me that it is the ONLY true church on the face of the earth, and the only one that has authority to carry out ordinances in the name of the Savior Jesus Christ. The ordinance of the Sacrament is a holy and powerful witness that our Father in Heaven and our Savior Jesus Christ love us and allow us to repent of the dumb things we do as mortals. But the sacrament can only be administered by those who hold the priesthood, or the authority of the Savior.

How I live my faith

As difficult as it is, I pray both morning and evening, and I read at least 1 chapter of scriptures every day, without fail. It started out as being difficult, if only just to remember to do. But now, I have become nearly obsessed with making sure I read at least 1 chapter, and praying at least morning and night. I have found that through this simple outward perfomance that the promptings of the Holy Ghost have increased a hundred fold. this is no simple sunday school answer to this question. this is a POWERFUL influence in my life, and I have been able to make great advances in my spirituality by just reading and praying every day without fail. it isn't easy; there have been times when it was inconvenient to read, or I was a little tired to pray, or I was running late in the morning. I made a committment to myself that I would accept the challenge to pray and read, not when it was convenient, but always. I am a much greater servent of my Father in Heaven, and I feel more humbled when I receive promptings from the Holy Ghost.
