Hi I'm Nick

I'm a student at Brigham Young University. I love everything to do with music. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm currently a student at BYU, majoring in Economics. I'm leaving to serve an LDS mission in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on October 19th, 2011. I enjoy playing the piano and the guitar. I enjoy music from bands such as Silverstein, A Day to Remember, Between the Trees, Dashboard Confessional, Thrice, The Classic Crime, etc. I'm the oldest in a family with 4 children.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the Church, but I really started to gain my own testimony just in the past year. Throughout my youth, I've always struggled with various temptations, some of which I had let get the best of me. In realizing that the time was soon approaching that I would be expected to be worthy to serve the Lord for 2 years, I increased my efforts in fighting off temptation and in trying to gain my own testimony of the gospel. Through this experience, I have gained an unshakable testimony of perhaps the two most important facets of our doctrine, the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the Book of Mormon. In my struggles to overcome sin and temptation, I have seen the healing and strengthening power of the atonement in my life. I know that it is through Christ that I can be forgiven of all my sins and return to my Father in Heaven. Though I have many weaknesses, I know that through the atonement all of my weaknesses can become strengths (as taught in Ether 12:27). I gained a very real and very tangible testimony of the Book of Mormon soon after I received my mission call to Rio de Janeiro. Though I had read the Book of Mormon a few times before then, I had never felt I had received a strong witness of its truth and power. One night, a week or so after I had received my mission call, I sat in my room listening to the Portuguese audio version of the Book of Mormon. As I pressed the "pause" button on my iPod and was ready to call it a night, I received a sudden impression of an outpouring of love coming from my Heavenly Father. I all at once understood that God loves each and every one of his children, and that through the Book of Mormon everyone can understand that they are beloved sons and daughters of God. Since that experience, I have come to realize that every word of the Book of Mormon testifies of the truth of its message.

How I live my faith

Like most active LDS members, I attend church every week. I participate weekly in the sacrament ordinances which helps me gain an increased appreciation of their importance and meaning. The biggest way that I live my faith is by preparing to serve an honorable full-time mission for the Church. As mentioned previously, I will leave to labor in the Brazil Rio de Janeiro Mission on October 19th, so most of my time now is spent studying the scriptures and working to earn money for serving my mission. I am so excited for the opportunity I will have to serve the Lord for 2 years and to share his message of the restored gospel with the people of Brazil!

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?
