Hi I'm Russ

I am a father of seven, a husband and a small business owner and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

The best thing about my life is my relationshop with my wife and my children. I love my wife and we have given all we have to raising our children. I love to play with them and spend time with them any way I can. With them I have found happiness that nothing else has ever given me. For most of my life I have worked in and around the construction industry. After working for many years as a constuction manager I started my own small construction related business. I had no capital and very little time but through prayer and work my Heavenly Father helped open doors for me and provided me with opportunities to grow a small business. I have been self employed for 10 years now and feel it is a great blessing the Lord has given me to be able to control my time and work environment. During the past few years the economic downturn has hit the construction industry very hard. I have prayed constantly for the economic welfare of my family and that my business will survive. My faith in Heavenly Father has grown as I have seen His hand in my life. We have faced many challenges but I know that with His help we will make it through each one and become stronger.

Why I am a Mormon

When my father became a firefighter he became friends with several members of the mormon church. Some of them were good examples to him and he could see something special about their families and began to ask questions. When I was 7 years old my parents were baptized and became members of the Mormon church. I grew up a member of the church but that is not the reason I am a Mormon. I'm a mormon because Heavenly Father told me in a very personal way that I needed to serve a mission. I was almost 19 years old and I was struggling with the decision of whether or not to serve a mission. I was thinking of going to college for a semester to give myself some time to think about it. I went to my bishop's house to get him to sign some college papers for me. He said I thought you were going to go on a mission. I told him that I wasn't sure if I was ready. He said to me." You are more ready than you think you are." When he said those words my body began to feel warm all over. I knew what he said was true because the feeling I had told me it was. I felt so good. I knew I had felt that feeling before. For the first time i recognized it as Heavenly Fathers voice. I realized that Heavenly Father knew me and loved me enough to tell me I needed to serve a mission. My mission changed my life forever. I am a Mormon Because Heavenly Father spoke to me and my life was changed.

How I live my faith

I believe living your faith begins in your home with your children and wife. I lead a large ward of over 500 people but when I come home I am just a dad. I want to give the best I have to my family and to my ward. This is challenging and I know at times I fail. I pray continually for Heavenly Father to help me fulfill all the responsibilities I have in a way He will be pleased with. I am trying to be like Jesus. I am learning about His life and trying to change and become more like Him. I have so far to go but each step I take brings me closer to Him. I feel His love when I reach out to others. I take opportunities to teach my children and the other members of our ward about the great love The Savior has for us and that He gave His life so that we can live with Him again. He was a carpenter but that did not define Him. I am a small business owner but that says very little about the person I am. Like Him I am a teacher and a father. As I give my life in service to Him, He has blessed me continually.
