Hi I'm DeVon

I grew up in Washington state. I lived in South Korea for two years. I love baseball. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the father of three children, two boys and one girl. My two oldest children got married last year which made for an exciting, busy year. My wife grew up in the same city that I grew up in. Although we did not know each other while growing up, my sister knew my future wife and I knew my future brother in law. Kind of funny how some things work out. In my younger days I was a sports fanatic and could not get enough of it. After getting married and having children, I became my children's biggest fan. I'd much rather watch my kids play sports or perform than be doing it myself. I guess that's why I coached Little League baseball for over 10 years. I am a computer consultant and work with many large clients. My job provides me with a variety of experiences that keeps me on my toes and keeps me learning. I love learning about different companies and how they do business.

Why I am a Mormon

I have always been a person who enjoys learning. I'm also the kind of person that needs to have an anchor or "sure thing" that I can always rely on. As I pondered on my life and what it is all about, I found I needed the answers to three questions, i.e. Where did I come from before this life? Why am I here? What happens to me after I leave this life? I have found these answers in The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints or the Mormon church. While the principles and concepts of the gospel of Jesus Christ are simple enough for young and inexperienced people to understand, I have come to know that there is lifelong learning that can be had as I study and ponder the life of Jesus Christ and how He influences my life and the lives of those around me. Gratefully I have come to know that Jesus Christ is the Redeemer of the world and through his Atonement I can be cleansed from my sins and shortcomings. As I see the turmoil and confusion that seems to engulf the world, the surety I have of knowing where I can turn for peace and comfort helps me keep perspective. Knowing I have a loving, caring Heavenly Father who is interested in my welfare and the welfare of my family provides the anchor in my life that I so much need. It is not my life experience or the things that I have heard that makes me want to be a Mormon. It is the ability that we all have to know this truth for ourselves. I have studied, pondered and prayed to know of truth and the Lord has seen fit to bless me with a confirmation of that truth through the spirit of the Holy Ghost. I know this truth independent of any other person because my Heavenly Father has blessed me with it.

How I live my faith

I am the bishop of a Mormon congregation of about 350 people. Being a bishop allows me to get to know many people. In a way, I have been able to share their experiences from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows. I have been able to help lift people from bad situations through organizing and using the talents of others in the congragation to provide aid. Through this I have seen many opportunities to help and serve other people and how it blesses other people's lives. Serving others is the most gratifying feeling we can have. Being a bishop I am able to witness and hear of how people serve others, usually without having to be asked. They just do it. Being a bishop helps me to keep perspective on what is important in life. With a full time job to support my family and being a bishop, my life is very busy and fulfilling. In my day to day life I try to help others all that I can. Whether it is helping someone standed on the side of the road, helping out a neighbor or blessing someone who is sick or overwhelmed, I don't have to look very hard to find opportunities to help others. I try to keep a positive outlook on the future even though there is a lot of commotion, confusion and uneasiness in the world. I enjoy helping others to see the good things in life especially when things look dark. While I don't know all of the answers, I know enough of the answers to allow me to live a secure and happy life. Hopefully I live my life in such a way that others can see what I see and that others can feel the hope that I feel.
