Hi I'm Tom

I am a Doctor of Orthopedic Physical Therapy. My wife and I are blessed with 7 children; 7 grandchildren and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I was raised in the LDS church and its teachings and practices are what has given me the foundation for my life. I was active in sports and music in my high school years and developed many great friendships that I hold dear to this day. I served a two year mission for the Church in Taiwan, Republic of China and learned Mandarin Chinese. While on my mission I learned discipline, how to work and do something that seemed impossible (learn Chinese). While on my mission I witnessed how the Gospel of Jesus Christ can change lives. I developed a love and respect for the Chinese people and for their rich culture. It was while in Taiwan that I developed an interest in physical medicine/therapy as I observed Oriental medicine and its focus on holistic health, healing and physical modalities/interventions. I returned home, met my wife and was married while in college working on my undergrad degree. My wife is the wind beneath my wings and we have been blessed with a large family which has given us great purpose and happiness. This has not been without physical health and temporal challenges. We have learned through our struggles to provide for a large family that if we put priorities in proper perspective things always work out. I am currently in private practice and am part-time associate professor at several universities, serve as Ethics Chair in my state professional organization and previously on a local university's IRB committee.

Why I am a Mormon

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is what provides purpose and guidance for our family. Through its teachings I have learned about my relationship with the Savior and as His role as my Savior and Redeemer. Through His Atonement, I can exercise the principle of repentence and become more like Him. It is through His restored Gospel that provides a way for my family to be together forever in the eternities. I cannot think of life without my wife, children and grandchildren. Through my membership in this Church, I have been privileged to be married for time and all eternity in our Temple. It is here were we make sacred marriage covenants and an eternal bond or sealing transpires that inspires and creates the desire in me to live the commandments of Jesus Christ so that we can obtain that life that will exist througout eternity as a family entity. I love the teachings of the Church, its emphasis on the eternal family, and how it supports and sustains marriage, family and Christ-like service.

How I live my faith

I have had the privilege of always serving in our ward in our Primary (children) organization, Young Men's (teenaged youth) in numerous class teaching as well as in the Scouting program. Likewise, I have also served in Quorum Presidencies as a youth and an adult. In the last 15 years, I have served as a Bishop's counselor, Bishop, High Councilor and currently as a counselor in the Stake Presidency. With every opportunity to serve, I have learned a great deal about myself and more importantly others. I have learned as an ancient prophet once proclaimed, "When you are in the service of your fellow men, you are only in the service of your God." I have also greatly appreciated the commandments of the Gospel which bring not only temporal blessings of health and prosperity but perhaps more importantly the spiritual blessings of peace and comfort in knowing what we are doing is right and true. It brings me and my family closer together as well as closer to our Savior.

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Tom
They will share with you a message of the restoration of the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in these the latter days. Missionaries also teach of our relationship with God our Eternal Father, His son Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost. They will explain and teach of our faith and testimony of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and of His role as Savior and Redeemer of mankind. They will teach of the dark ages of apostacy of the early Christian Church and how the Gospel of Jesus Christ was restored through the prophet Joseph Smith in this dispensation. They will also introduce The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ as the keystone of our faith as it further adds its clarification and sutaining support of The Bible which we also hold sacred and believe to be the word of God.
