Hi I'm Mark

I'm a Mormon. I searched and searched for the truth and found it with the book of Mormon.

About Me

Hi there. I'm 54 years old, married and have six daughters. Two are mine and four are my wife's. They all live elsewhere now.I have two grandsons and a grand daughter due on X-MAS eve. Now that I Have the time again, I've started building models again. I love to read and have quite the assortment of books on my NOOK E-reader.I also love motorcycles and boats and magazines about them. I spent 14 years in the military, 4 Navy and 10 Army. I got out in 1988. Some day I would love to learn to fly a helicopter. I loved flying in them in the navy.

Why I am a Mormon

In May of this year I was recovering from hip replacement surgery and developed a blood clot in my lower leg and when my wife found out all she could due was cry. One of our neighbors was Mormon and her missionaries had helped my wife move our large fountain while I was having my hip replaced. The day I told my wife about the blood clot she was in her office crying and while the missionaries were leaving the neighbors they decided to turn around and see if my wife needed anything. Needless to say, she needed to talk to someone. At this time in my life I had pretty much given up on the whole heaven thing. The missionaries came in with my wife and she asked me if I would like a healing blessing and I said sure, what's to lose. They left a Book of Mormon for me to read afterword and I started reading it that day. The next Sunday we were in church and the bishop went to the missionaries and told them he had a referral from someone in California and it was our names. When they told the bishop we were already here he was surprised. God always puts us where we are supposed to be, even if we don't realize it at the time. I have finally found the true church and my soul is at peace. Nothing before ever felt right. this feels like home. If you get the chance, read the Book of Mormon from cover to cover and then pray to Jesus and GOD and ask them if it's true. It's not our bible like some people think. It is another testament of Christ. There are many "books" in the bible, and they are all testaments of or about the coming of Christ. they are a history of the church and it's development through time. Read the book and then decide. You will be surprised by the truth and you will know it is the truth.

How I live my faith

The church gives me many opportunities to serve others as Christ served the people of his day. Sometimes all that's needed is a smile while others may need comfort or someone to listen. At other times I may be repairing someones plumbing or other home repairs. I have helped complete strangers and people I know well. Jesus showed us how to behave and what to become. We could all learn from his example and I strive to be like him in all that I do now. I even stop the devils influence in my dreams now. I genuinely Love every man woman and child on earth and care what happens to them. I may despise the sin, but I love the sinner and pray for his soul to be given the chance to learn of Christ and his teachings in these the later days. I was never a "Jesus freak", or "Bible thumping" sort, and now I know why. You can't force the truth on someone. it must be accepted by them or it is a waste of time. They must chose for themselves, and I give people a chance to discover there own way. Some people are quick to learn and see the truth faster than others, while others take a while to get all of their questions answered. We all have questions and this is a great place to get your answers. You have questions and we have answers. Talk with us.

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

Being a priest or acting as the Bishop isn't a job, It's a calling that you accept because you want to do this for others. We don't believe that we should be paid to do what is right or live off the backs of others. We work for our food and money and we still have our various callings duties that we are chosen for in the church. this is how Christ wanted it and that's why we do it this way. We have various Sunday school teachers and group leaders that work their 9-5 jobs and still prepare the Sunday school lessons and other lessons as needed in their off time because it's the right thing to do. We have a saying, CHOOSE THE RIGHT, and you will see it as CTR on clothing, jewelry and in print. It's to remind us that making the right choice is the only choice. GOD doesn't want your money for those that give you his gospel, The church uses your money to help others in need and to keep up the buildings themselves. How much more would be needed if it went to pay for some one to teach you the gospel? There are over 14 million members right now, and that's a Conservative estimate. How many people would go without aid? The Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints was the single largest contributor of aid and supplies during the Ethiopian famine. Show more Show less

Why do some call Mormonism a cult?

One definition listed for ‘cult’ in Webster’s Dictionary is “a religion regarded as unorthodox.” Since the roots of Mormonism are not a break off from the Catholic or Protestant churches, it is seen by some as “unorthodox.” For example, the LDS definition of the Godhead differs from the Nicene Creed accepted by most Catholic or Protestant churches. The “cult” label is usually applied by Church opponents attempting to criticize or discredit the Church. However, sometimes it’s simply a matter of characterization that has grown up over time by the lack of understanding. Such misunderstandings often vanish when people begin to realize the commonality of what The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints really teaches and believes. That Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that He is the Savior and Redeemer of the world whom we love and worship. When people begin to see and recognize these things about Mormons, then their opinion of the Church usually changes, and old beliefs are replaced with new understanding. Show more Show less

How are the activities of the Mormon missionaries funded?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is actively involved in teaching the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. Currently about 53,000 volunteer missionaries throughout the world share the joy they have found in the gospel. Most of them are young, single people serving full time for 18 to 24 months at their own expense. These missionaries share a message about Jesus Christ and His Atonement for all people. They teach about our Heavenly Father’s great plan of salvation, which allows all people the opportunity to return to Him. They pay for it themselves, As with most other callings in the Church, We volunteer our time and effort to do this. We do these things because it is the right thing to do. We have a saying that you may see in print or on clothing and Jewelry, C T R or Choose The Right. It is a great example of how to live. Show more Show less
