Hi I'm Kevin

I grew up on southern California. I spent two years in Italy for my church. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the father of four adult children and 12 grandchildren. I have a master's degree in education administration. However, I have worked in insurance claims for over 31 years. Education wasn't paying the bills. I enjoy hiking, walking, singing, volleyball, gymnastics, woodworking, movies, computers, and gadgets. I do a lot of home repairs, including roofing, electrical, plumbing, painting, and most everything else. I enjoyed being in stage productions and had major roles Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Juda) and Fiddler on the Roof (Avram the book seller). During my teenage years, I never liked dancing and only went to a couple of dances. I began to enjoy dancing when I auditioned for a part in "Joseph". The audion was just singing, but after that, they had a mass dance audition. Most of what they wanted everyone to do was gymnastics and I thought, "I can do all that". I later took ballroom dancing with my wife and enjoyed it very much. Now, we do Just Dance on the Wii.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was raised in the Mormon church, this is not why I am still an active member. When I was 18 years old, I had a class in college about Christian religions of the world. It was a fascinating class. I began to look inward and ask myself, what do I really believe? As I looked at the different Christian faiths, I felt I needed to know if my religion was true. I had been told it was, but that was just living off someone else's faith and testimony. I was getting close to the age when I was expected to go on a two year mission. I was prepared to not go if I felt my religion was not what I had been taught. I began to search the scriptures and pray to Heavenly Father to guide me to the truth. The class referred to above looked at the gospel of Jesus Christ as it is laid out in the New Testament. I compared this to what I was reading in the Book of Mormon. The gospel in the Book of Mormon helped me better understand the gospel in the New Testament. As I read the Book of Mormon, I started praying about what I was reading. The Holy Spirit testified to me that it was true. I then knew for myself and did not have to rely on the words or testimony of others.

How I live my faith

I have had the opportunity to serve on an interfaith council that the Mayor of my city organized. I was one of several to represent The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I have worked with the young men in our church in the Scouting program as well as in the various Priesthood quorums. I had a great opportunity to serve my community by being a facilitator in an addiction recovery group. I have been blessed to serve my neighbors in various ways. The most recent, building a wheelchair accessible ramp for a neighbor down the street. I live my faith by example. All who know me also know the personal and professional standards by which I live. I live my faith to the best of my ability because I know many people watch me and know of my faith. I do not want to do or say anything that would cause anyone to doubt that I truly believe what I say I believe.
