Hi I'm Gavin

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the father of three daughters and a son. I am married to my favorite person in the world. I am a commercial real estate appraiser for a large national/international commercial real estate firm. I have recently been participating in sprint triathlons. I attended BYU (Brigham Young University) and am a big fan of BYU sports, especially football and basketball. I served a two year full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in New York City.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I know that it is true. I was raised actively attending the church and was taught the Gospel of Jesus Christ by my parents. They helped me have many opportunities as I was growing up to feel and recognize the Holy Ghost when He testifies of the truth. One particular experience I had when I was a freshman in college really helped me to know that God has called prophets today, just as He did as recorded in the scriptures. I was taking a class called “Sharing the Gospel” and our professor asked us to turn to our neighbor in the class and read the words that Joseph Smith wrote about the experience he had when he prayed to overcome his confusion about which church he should join and his call as a prophet. As I read his words to a total stranger, the Holy Ghost bore such a power witness to my heart that what I was reading was true, that I had a hard time getting the words out as my heart burned and tears came to my eyes. After that year in school, I served a two year mission and was able to help share the gospel with many people in New York City. There is no doubt in my mind that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is true. Jesus Christ has restored His kingdom on the earth through a prophet. As I live the gospel, I find I am happy no matter what challenges life throws my way. This is just a few of the reasons why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by teaching my children the gospel. We attend our weekly church meetings, where we learn from others and have opportunities to share our experiences. We read the scriptures together as a family and pray together. We take turns saying the prayers. Every Monday night we gather together in our living room as a family for Family Home Evening. We sing songs, have a lesson either on a gospel topic or on important family items, we have an activity or game and we love to finish with a treat. I have been assigned several families who attend our church within our neighborhood to visit them once each month and share a gospel message with them. I read/study the scriptures daily and I love to listen to the words of our living prophets when I exercise. Something that is very important to me is to be a good example of a Christian who lives my faith and lives the standards of a Mormon at work or wherever I am. I love opportunities to share with others about my beliefs and why I live the way I do.
