Hi I'm Charlene

I'm from yorkshire in England, I am married with two children and work with people who have learning dissabilities.

About Me

I am 29, have been married for 7 years, and am a mum to two lovely children, one boy and one girl. I have 3 sisters and 2 brothers. I have worked with people with both physical and/or learning difficulties since I was 18 and love my job.

Why I am a Mormon

My mum converted to the church before I was born so I have grown up in the church and this has been a great blessing to me. This has meant that I have been taught all my life that, I have a Father in Heaven who loves me, that I lived with Him before I came to earth, I have a Saviour who died for me, and I can live with both of them after this life. I have never doubted what I have been taught was right and true and through personal experiences have come to know for a certainty that they are. Mostly this has come through putting my faith to the test at one time or another, and by the Spirit quietly confirming it to me when I have gone to my Heavenly Father in prayer. I am far far from perfect but am trying to live a good life in keeping with the principles I know to be true. Although I have always come to church and never known different it most definitely is something I choose to do for myself and family, and I wouldn't be without the the gospel. It makes me happy living the way I do.

How I live my faith

I help at church in my area by leading the women's organization at the moment, teaching them at times, looking out for their needs and their families and generally trying to serve them as best I can. I do this with a great deal of help from lots of the sisters and with all of their efforts and prayers. Since having children I work very little outside of the home and feel really blessed to be able to spend most of my time keeping my home and family. I love family life and being at home. I see how important it is to our communities and society that we teach our children good values, restraint, kindness, love, obedience, respect and honesty. I really believe we need to start teaching these things at home so that's what I'm trying to do.

Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

Charlene
Heavenly Father set both men and women divine roles to fulfil while here on earth. Worthy men are called to hold the priesthood, this does not set them higher than women. Women are able to bring new life into the world and nurture it, which does not set them lower than men. Both of these roles are as our Heavenly Father and Saviour Jesus Christ would have it be. Women have an important role in leading certain auxiliaries in the church and to work alongside the priesthood auxiliaries. Unfortunately today people seem to devalue the role that women are given and almost see it as unimportant, yet what else can be seen as more important than raising the next generation? Both men and women need to work together in the church so it will be how the Lord would have His church be. Our divine roles and natures compliment each other when working together.
