Hi I'm John Christian Perkins

I recently graduated from college. I love adventures, movies, art and politics and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I recently graduated from a small school in southern Utah. I earned a degree in Art with an emphasis in Illustration. While I was there I created editorial cartoons for the school paper and my home town paper. I loved college! I love politics, and discussing ideas, especially when it comes to current events and religion. Though I graduated in Art, I have many interests. I love movies and music, getting out and doing things outdoors. There's so much to do in Utah, especially southern Utah. I love the mountains. I grew up in a small town, not too far away from Salt Lake City. Growing up it was just me and my mom, she had me when she was young and later married a great guy when I was 12. I have two little sisters and a little brother. I love them! My grandparents are a huge part of my life, they really helped raise me, I spent a great deal of time at their house. My uncles are more like brothers. I love my family. I am excited to one day have a family of my own. I was pretty shy growing up. In high school I really branched out and was really involved. I loved it! I did theatre, art, track and cross country and student government. I hope to continue to be involved with many different activities and groups. One day, I would love to run for a local office when I get older.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up my grandparents helped me to get to church and teach me the Gospel, but it was never forced upon me, my mom always let me decide and I'm so grateful for that. I chose to be baptized at an early age and to continue going to church because I simply felt it was the right thing to do. As I've gotten older my testimony has matured and I've gained a deeper understanding of Gospel truths. As I continue to live the principles I learn from the scriptures, including the Bible and Book of Mormon, I feel a light come into my life that lets me know they are true. I have made mistakes in my life, who hasn't? The feelings of regret and shame I have felt are evidence that God's laws are real, that sin is real. But more importantly, the incredible feeling of forgiveness that comes from turning to God and applying the healing power of Jesus Christ into my life is evidence to me that the Restored Gospel is true. I am Mormon because I have a testimony of the Savior's Atonement and of the Book of Mormon. As I've studied and read it and applied the principles in my life I've come to know that they are true.

How I live my faith

As college graduation came closer, I carefully considered what I was going to do with my life. It would have been much wiser in other people's perspective to begin looking for a career, but I knew the Lord had blessed me so much and I wanted to give back. I wanted to share the joy I have experienced as I have strived to follow Jesus Christ and help others. Things have not always been easy, I have made my way through dark times with my faith and I want to help others who may be struggling, who feel hopeless. There is a reason to be happy, there is more to this life than the day to day grind. Plus the great example of many of my friends who served honorably and sacrificed so much for the Gospel. For these reasons I put my life on hold for a while to serve a full-time mission. I have already learned and grown so much since I have been out here in the Portland, Oregon area! My testimony has been strengthened and continues to grow every time I help someone come closer to the Savior. I hadn't been out long before I was involved with a baptism, what an experience! I am so grateful I chose to serve. I know I would have regretted not coming. I am so blessed to be able to spend everyday serving the Lord full-time!
