Hi I'm Carmen

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy a variety of activities including playing the piano and reading. Our family lives on Okinawa, in Japan. This is our second time living here. We love it! It is a wonderful opportunity to learn about Japan and to experience one of the most polite cultures on the planet. Most of my time is spent caring for my children. I love my teenagers and I am so excited for the adventures that they are getting ready to experience as they become adults. I am always trying to think of ways to give my children experiences that will prepare them to be on their own. My oldest son served as a missionary in Retalhuleu, Guatemala. The joy and blessings that he is experienced from his service definitely outweighed the sacrifice of being physically separated from him. I also love Boy Scouts. I have four sons and I am so thankful for the opportunity to be involved in scouting. Finally, I really enjoy working on family history. I have family members on both sides of my family that have done a lot of research, but, most of it was before the technology of computers and the internet. I feel like I am on a great treasure hunt as I use the clues of my relatives and all of the great resources on the internet.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe. I believe that God is real and that he does exists. I believe that Jesus Christ is our Savior. I know these things because they are in my heart. When I was a teenager and unsure of so many things I read in the scriptures about charity. Charity is the pure love of Christ. I learned that I can pray to have charity in my own heart for others. This was profound for a teenager with all the normal social troubles that come with adolescence. I discovered that as I prayed to have charity for my peers that I was not nervous, frightened or angry, but indeed I did feel love and compassion towards my classmates. I also know that the Book of Mormon is true. I love both the Bible and the Book of Mormon. The Bible brings to life the stories of Jesus Christ and many of his followers. The Book of Mormon helps me better understand my personal relationship to Jesus Christ and why he atoned for our sins.

How I live my faith

There are three parts to how I live my faith. The first part is my personal religious behavior. This includes taking time each day to study the scriptures and pray. It also means that I do my best to live a life of integrity by being honest with myself and others. The second part is what I do when I am not reading my scriptures or praying (everything else). I try to live my faith by being patient with my family members even when I am not feeling well or in a bad mood. I serve my church family. Right now I have the opportunity to work with the teenage girls aged 12-18. I love getting to know the young women and learn about their dreams and aspirations. It is nice being a little bit further down the road of life and having the chance to share with them things they have to look forward to and some of the things they need to be cautious of. I feel it is important to help young women develop a healthy body image by teaching them how to properly care for their bodies and avoid harmful substances. The third part of what I do to live my faith is getting involved in my community. My faith gives me strength and helps me feel love towards others. I really enjoyed volunteering with the high school marching band when we lived in the states. If anybody is worried about the future they just need to spend time with our youth. It cheers me up to spend time with them. They are bright students who look to the future with faith.
