Hi I'm Whitney.

I love volunteering. I'm from Las Vegas. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love traveling and appreciate the beauty in all cultures. Volunteering my time to local causes and serving those around me give purpose to my life, and I feel it is good for my soul. I am currently working full-time and applying to graduate schools to study social work. I hope to one day visit Africa and do humanitarian work there. While serving a mission in Italy for 18 months, I was able to bring many people (who were at first strangers then became loved as dear friends to me) closer to our Savior Jesus Christ. I realize the happiest I can be is when I am able to share the gospel of Christ with others. This can be done without words in some instances! The fact that I live in Las Vegas, Nevada where a temple is located, allows me the great privilege of attending often. While there, I am able to assist those people who have passed on without having the knowledge of the gospel in accepting the great plan of happiness for themselves.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised a member of the Church yet, like every convert, I also had to know for myself if this was the only true church upon the face of the Earth. I have come to know, and continue to know each day through miracles that occur and the love that I feel from my Savior that this is His Church. His pure and correct doctrines have been restored and I take great comfort in knowing that His Church is being lead on Earth by a living prophet and 12 apostles. I gained my personal testimony of the truthfulness of this gospel by reading the Book of Mormon. While reading the book and pondering its words, I was able to feel an overwhelming sense of peace while reading the chapter of 3 Nephi 11. As I read the words of the chapter as Christ descends upon the people of the Americas, I knew then that event actually happened. I felt comfort and it was almost as if someone had wrapped a blanket around me. Tears filled my eyes as I recognized this as the Holy Ghost testifying to me of truth. I know that our Savior lives and is real. Joseph Smith was able to translate the ancient records which we now know as the Book of Mormon. Through the Savior's Atonement I know that I am able to start each day anew with a greater determination to do better and to try harder. I also know that I am never alone because Christ is always there for me. I can face new challenges and trials with courage knowing that Jesus Christ is aware of my situation and will forever stand by me when I am living righteously. In an uncertain and confused world, I am eternally grateful for the knowledge I have that God lives and loves His children. No matter how difficult and hopeless life may seem at times, I know that I am able to turn to my loving Heavenly Father for guidance and direction.

How I live my faith

Attending church each Sunday is an event I look forward to and it is usually the highlight of my week. I am able to comtemplate on the Savior's sacrifice for me which allows me to not only receive forgiveness for my sins but also live with Him and my family after this life. I am able to feel at peace and comforted when I hear the testimonies of others who are, like me, trying to become more like Jesus Christ. There are young women my age in the ward, and I am able to relate to them on issues that we as daughters of God are facing in our daily lives. It is great to know that I am not alone in my struggles and that there is support everywhere I turn. I am able to also visit those members of the church who may not attend as frequently and let them know that we are thinking of them, that we love them and desire their presence back at church. Serving others is something I really love about the Church. There is great emphasis placed on loving one's neighbor and reaching out to those in need as Christ did. Reading from the scriptures daily (the Bible and the Book of Mormon) grants me the peace and clarity I seek as I face each day where my beliefs may be tested. I am better equipped to face temptation and make good decisions that will bring happiness to my life. Through thoughtful, individual prayers each day, I am able to communicate with Diety, expressing my gratitude and also pleading for forgiveness and asking for guidance and direction in my life. I know that sincere prayers do not go unanswered and how thankful I am for a patient and wise Father in Heaven.
