Hi I'm April

I'm a wife, mother, M.F.A student, and a poet. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a graduate student in poetry. I love to read. I love to write. I always knew I wanted to teach, but it wasn't until I got to college that I figured out exactly what I wanted to teach. So, I'm on the road to become a writing professor. My husband and I really love education. He's currently studying to be a doctor. What a crazy life it is! I'm also the mother of a lovely baby girl. Motherhood is the biggest challenge of my whole life, and the most rewarding thing I've ever done. She's always discovering new things. Whether it be a string on the floor or a new food, she loves to try new things. She keeps me busy, and always keeps me laughing. Babies are a hoot. I'm getting used to being a full-time mommy, and while I do that I'm finding new hobbies. I've been trying my hand at sewing, painting, new foods, and a new language! I'm a jack of all trades, master of none; but that's how I have fun. I go and try something new.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up without a church to call home. When I was 12 I decided to start going to church with my grandmother. We visited a lot of different churches before we finally landed at a Baptist church. While that church was great, it wasn't quite everything that I was looking for. So I hunted. My travels lead me to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I remember my prayers before I met the missionaries. I was so eager to find whatever it was that I felt like I was missing. I prayed every day that I would find where I was supposed to be. Then I met the missionaries. At first, I was hesitant to learn what they had to share. I didn't read the Book of Mormon at first, either. It wasn't until they taught me that God had a plan for us, and how He would organize His church that I began to listen. It made so much sense to me that Heavenly Father would organize His church today as he had before so that we would always know which way to turn. Of course Heavenly Father doesn't want us to be confused! He is wise. So, it made sense to me that His church would be the same everywhere and He would offer modern day guidance for us. If He loved his children back in the times of the old testament enough to lead them, then He loves us enough today to lead us. That's why He still has a prophet to lead and guide his children. I'm so grateful for a wise and organized Heavenly Father. I have found peace, and happiness. I have a family that is forever. I'm so glad that I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I am a ward missionary. Along side my husband I work with the missionaries to teach the gospel. I love working with people investigating the church. What a blessing it is to learn with a fellow brother or sister about the never ending goodness of our Father in Heaven. I look for ways each day that I can share the love of Christ. Whether it be letting someone ahead of me in the grocery line with a few items while I have a cart full or shooting a text message to a friend to remind them that I think they're pretty great, I want to do my part to show the kindness the Savior would offer if he were in my position.
