Hi I'm Mike

I grew up in the outback of Australia for the first nine years of my life then the family moved to Sydney NSW. I'm a Mormon too!

About Me

I currently run a business that helps people get access to government funded training courses. At the same time I am employed as a consultant to businesses who wish to become certified to an international standard. I am married with 7 children and 2 granchildren. We still have 4 living at home from age 20 to age 14. I live on the Gold Coast in Queensland and love it. I enjoy playing the guitar - love blues, rock and lot's of other stuff. I sing in a regular choir and love singing. It's great for the soul. I am sometimes found taking groups of kids (inlcluding the old kids) on abseiling trips down some pretty fun canyons through the waterfalls. Nine years as a scout leader and 9 years as a soldier in the full time Australian Army were helpful for that.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptised at age 26 and to be honest, I could never have imagined myself as a Mormon when I was young. The thing is, when I met the missionaries and listened to their message, I mean actually listened with my heart, I knew the search for truth was over. I have never been so happy. I was still in the Australian full time Army at the time and that meant making some significant changes. It has been well worth it. The personal growth I have experienced has been amazing to me.

How I live my faith

The thing that makes the greatest difference to my happiness is serving others. I have found that the many opportunities that have come my way as a member of the church, have helped me tremedously. There's a scripture in the New Testament that says "For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever shall lose his life for my sake shall find it". That is so true. I was a scout leader for 9 years as a member of the church leading a mormon scout troop. The adventures we had were second to none. Some of my young friends went on to become Queen Scouts. I went to some of their weddings, and have remained close to many of the youth I served. I still lead the occasional canyoning trip in the beautiful Gold Coast Hinterland taking people, young and old through parts of the world where very few people are able to go. Currrently, I serve as a leader to a group of wonderful men who, like me enjoy service. Along with a couple of assitants, we organise the group into companionships of two and go out serving the families in our care, seeing to their phyisical and spiritual needs.

What is the Law of Chastity?

Mike
It seems old fashioned in today's world but I have come to learn the just because some things are old doesn't mean they're wrong. In lot's of situations our parents and ancestors were right. Living the law of chastity means not have any kind of sexual relations with anyone except your legally wedded partner i.e. no sex before marriage and only with our spouse after marriage. I have found that many of societies' problems come from not living this one basic principle...like broken families for instance. I came from such a family and it is no fun. Shattered lives can take a long time to recover, if they ever really do. Keeping the law of chastity is necessary for safety, happiness, peace and self-respect. It deepens married love and protects families. It has certainly helped make my life a lot happier and it will for you too. I am sure it must be because this is an eternally true principle for all mankind. Show more Show less
