Hi I'm Doug

Growing up I lived in several states; went to High School in Utah and graduated from the Colorado School of Mines. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My greatest interest in High School was mathematics. With that interest I obtained a BSc degree in Petroleum Engineering form the Colorado School of Mines. I have worked in the Oil and Natural Gas industry for over 31 years. My jobs have taken me to Western Siberia, Eastern Venezuela, the Amazon River Basin, and the Country of Jordan. Home base was always in the USA. My wife and I have been married 34 years, we have 5 children - all married with almost 13 grandchildren. My wife tells me we have moved 18 times since we got married. Due to our travels, we have met and associated with people from many places in this country and around the world. It has ben a blessing to meet and get to know all of these wonderful people. I enjoy the outdoors and when ever I can I like to go hiking, running, water skiing, snow skiing, biking, and fishing. Nature is beautiful; waterfalls, clear mountain streams, cool lakes and the broad blue sky. The snow caped peaks refresh and energize me. There is just so much it is hard to take it all in.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was born a member of the church I had to recieve my own testimony and be converted to the true gospel of Jesus Christ just like anybody else. Growing up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints I learned much but did not understand all that I was taught. At the age of 8 years old I knew that this was the true gospel of Jesus Christ. I remember sitting in sacrament meeting and being touch to my heart by what was being said. It rang true to me. I do not remember the words that were spoken only the feeling that I had. Life has been challenging and at times very difficult. I have made mistakes but I know that through the Atonement of Jesus Christ my sins can be forgiven. I know that suffering and anxiety can be eliminated through the true Love of Christ. It is wonderful to me to feel that true love, without guile, without reservation that comes from our Savior through the Holy Ghost. The Gospel of Jesus Christ has blessed my life tremendously. I am greatful for the faithfulness of the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-Day Saints. They set an example for me. I know that our Savior Jesus Christ lives. He loves us and He has restored His church to the earth for our benefit.

How I live my faith

Currently I am serving as a Bishop in a Student/Young Single Adult Ward. It is a wonderful experience and I love these young men and young women I get to serve with. I see there challenges and I know of their strength and great worth. They set a wonderful example of John 13:35, they show great love for one another. In my day to day life I try to be a good example and do as the Savior would have me do. He was kind, loving, charitable, and patient. If I can master these qualities, I will be more like my Savior; that is my goal.

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Doug
The Bible is a wonderful set of scriptures and we can learn much by studying it. Some of the translations have made certian scriptures confusing and contradictory. But, the bulk of the Bible is useful and good. Lessons taught and the faith demonstrated by those of the Old and New Testaments set a great example for each of us. The teachings of our Savior, in the New Testament are invaluable. To read, ponder and pray about the Bible provides many insights and understandings Show more Show less
