Hi I'm Karen

I attended UCD. I lost both parents & a sister in a plane crash. I'm a mother of 3, I love soccer & I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I live in Colorado. I'm a mom to 3 great teenagers, so I keep very busy. Then again, I have worked with teenagers since I began coaching gynmastics when I was in high school. And I still love being around and working with teenagers! For the past eight years, it has been my privilege to teach early-morning seminary to high school students before they head to school. This year, I will be studying the Old Testament with 27 freshmen and sophomores. I love to watch soccer, especially English Premier League. My favorite team is Manchester United. I also try to watch my son play in all his high school games. I love to read, and recently I started to develop an interest in gourmet cupcakes.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon simply because I WANT TO BE!!! I've attended several oher churches. They are great. They have good people and do much good in the communities, but none of them really had solid answers to WHY I'm here on earth and what's going to happen after I die. Who my Savior really is and what His great sacrifice really meant to me. When I was 26 I lost both parents and my 18 year old sister in a small plane crash. It was a difficult time. I had only been married about 1 1/2 years and was carrying our first chld. I immediatedly became mother to my two remaining siblings and helped settle the estate. I NEEDED to know what happened to them, where they went and if I'd be with them again. Because I knew the beautiful and simple truths of the Gospel, I knew exactly where they were, what they were doing and that I'd be able to see them, hug them and talk to them again. This has been a tremendous comfort to me. In the years since that day, I've watched many friends go through really hard things. It's a comfort to know there's a purpose to why we have to face hard things. So many people today feel that there can't be a God because He wouldn't allow terrible things to happen. People don't realize that God doesn't cause bad things to happen, but He allows them to happen so we can grow and learn. I know there is a God because of the comfort I feel from Him every day. Lots of people in the Bible faced difficult things, just like we do. I know that God will never interfere with my right to choose for myself. I've learned that because of Christ's atoning sacrifice in the garden, the cross and His resurrection, I also can find the strength I need to face hard things and find great joy in each day.

How I live my faith

I love teaching teenagers every school morning. I can't think of a better way to start each day than to open the scriptures and learn from them each day. The youth of today are smart, vibrant and faithful! I spend many hours a day studying so I can help them understand how the precious truths found in the scripures relate to them. I served as chairman of the middle school accountability committee for 3 years because I wanted to help and lend my faith to dedicated teachers. I love to bake for other people and my family and I love to help my children and my siblings too!!!
