Hi I'm Travis

I'm a law student. I love to surf. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I live in the metropolitan Phoenix area where I'm currently attending law school. I'm focusing on getting a good education and trying to have some fun in the process. As far as recreation goes, right now I'm playing on an indoor soccer team and training for a mud run. Whenever I can I travel to California to surf. I'm trying to enjoy life now and planning for the future.

Why I am a Mormon

My father joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints while in his early 20's and my mother was raised in a family that lived according to the teachings of the LDS church. They in turn taught me what they have found to be true and encouraged me to pray and learn for myself the truth of their teachings. I have studied the Book of Mormon throughout my life and it has inspired me to do good, to love my neighbor, and to have faith in Jesus Christ. I know that it is true just as I know that the Holy Bible is the word of God. Through the Book of Mormon I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is true. I served a 2 year mission in Brazil and invited everyone I could to read the Book of Mormon and pray and ask God if it is true. Those that accepted my invitation with an open heart felt a light and a happiness enter their lives that they had never before experienced. I continue to make that same invitation to those around me. I hope that they, and all people, can see that being a Mormon is the source of happiness in my life. Being a member of this church has blessed my family and has positively affected everything I do.

How I live my faith

I participate in my local church by planning activities for the young single adults where they can socialize and strengthen one another. These events are open to anyone and we welcome members of the community that do not attend our church. I am also involved in teaching gospel messages to members of my church through what is called home teaching. I try to make myself available at all times to the members that I home teach in case they need help with anything or if they just need someone to talk to.

Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven’t we always had the Bible?

Travis
God has always called prophets in order to establish his church and to teach true doctrine. We have seen throughout history, however, that people often reject God's prophets and their teachings. When our Savior, Jesus Christ, came to earth he established his church and called 12 apostles. After Jesus was crucified, people rejected and killed most of the apostles. Without the leaders of the church and the authority they held, many people strayed from the truth and followed false teachings. In the New Testament, God promised that he would restore His true church upon the earth. This occurred when God once again called a prophet. This prophet's name is Joseph Smith. Our Heavenly Father has also called 12 apostles that have authority to teach and guide the church. The Bible is the word of God and the authority to lead God's church is held by men who are called of God. The Bible itself is evidence of this. Show more Show less
