Hi I'm Taryn

I am a Social Worker that works for Disability Services. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have a number of hobbies, well they are more like interests. I like variety so I don't tend to get too bogged down in one activity. I enjoy reading - particularly classics. I have previously not been much of a poetry fan but at the moment I am getting into the works of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. I like his poetry because every now and then I will read something that seems to express exactly what I have been thinking or feeling. That man was a genius for putting human emotion into words that sound so beautiful they are almost like music. I also enjoy listening to music. Recently I have been getting into classical music more. It must be a sign that I am aging! But after a long day at work I find that listening to classical on the way home in the car helps me think clearer and has a positive effect on my moods. It also causes me to lament that I didn't put enough effort into the violin lessons that my parents provided the opportunity for me to have as a child! In the last couple of years I have been bitten by the travel bug. I am writing this profile from the Ayers Rock Resort!! Australia has so many beautiful places to visit. The outback is such a wild, beautiful, majestic and isolated place. I am so glad that I have the opportunity to visit it. I enjoy any outdoors activity and the Northern Territory is full of them. Above all else I enjoy spending time with new and old friends and getting to know people.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the Church when I was 19. I didn't intend to join a religion, although I was curious about many faiths. But I had a number of friends who were members of this church and the more I learnt about their beliefs the more I felt it resonated with things I felt I had always known but never really articulated. I have come to know for myself that Jesus Christ is my Saviour and that He has given us commandments that are for our benefit. Why am I a Mormon? Because it makes me happy and because it makes me a better person. When you are striving your hardest to live the way He has prescribed there comes into your life an incredible sense of peace and joy. There is no greater happiness than striving to better yourself as a person and better the lives of those around you. I know that the fullness of the Saviour's teachings are found in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. That is why i am a member.

How I live my faith

I currently attend a smallish ward with a lot of young families. Until recently I had the responsibility of teaching Sunday School to the 14-17 year olds in our congregation. I loved spending time with the youth. I was constantly inspired by their goodness and faith and desire to live pure, honest lives. I now work with the women in our congregation and I enjoy, spending time with these women getting to know them and serving them. I served a full-time mission in Japan a few years ago and consider this to be one of the highlights of my life. There is nothing better than serving other people full-time. I feel that being a disciple of Jesus Christ is something that you do at all times, not just on Sundays. So I like to volunteer my time to those in our community who are in need. I currently volunteer as a telephone counsellor with a community organisation. My beliefs influence everything I do from the clothes that I wear, to the music that I listen to, the words that I speak and the way I spend my time.
