Hi I'm John

I am a husband, father, and work as an aerospace engineer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up on a farm until I was 8 years old. At that time my parents passed away. I was fortunate to have a loving extended family that raised me and my siblings. The family and big city changes were a hard adjustment for a young boy to make but what else do you do? Because of the love of family and friends life turned out just fine. I was able to get a good education and now enjoy working as a Flight Controls Engineer on commercial airplanes. My wife and I have seven children and now grandchildren. We enjoy getting together when we can. Much of our fun revolves around water sports. We also enjoy some hiking and camping.

Why I am a Mormon

While I was raised a Mormon it has been my own decision to accept the teachings and then to have stayed with it throughout my life. The spirit has borne witness to me that the gospel of Jesus Christ has been restored on the earth. I believe, as the scriptures teach, that God will always call a prophet when there are people who will listen. He has done that again in our day. Our loving Heavenly Father wants to bless his children with what they need in a troubled world. If ever we needed divine direction it is now. Following God's chosen prophet over the years has increased my faith in the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. God's contemporary direction through His prophet has prevented me from choosing paths that would have brought much suffering. Instead the gospel of Jesus Christ has brought me great blessings and I have been strengthened to bear my trials. This is why I continue to be a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I know that I can best live my faith by frequently remembering the covenants I have made to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Besides my personal and family worship of scripture study and prayer, I also live my faith by serving others. I currently serve as Bishop of our local congregation. Our congregation looks for ways to serve in the community. This year that has included work to improve a school playground. We also serve one another within the congregation in times of need.

What is faith?

I have come to understand faith as the first principle in all aspects of my life. It is faith that drives me in any accomplishments big or small. Faith comes by learning about principles of truth. Spiritually, faith comes by reading and pondering the scriptures; and by listening to a prophets voice. A great goal you may have in life is something you hope for but is not yet achieved. So it is in spiritual matters. Some blessings of the gospel, even salvation itself, are things we hope for but have not yet seen. Yet there are many blessings, including peace and happiness, that we can have in our life now. These are achieved by faith in the principles of the gospel as taught by modern day prophets. My faith in Jesus Christ has brought me this peace and happiness. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

The thing that I marvel most about the Gospel of Jesus Christ is what it has taught me about the love of God. Through these teachings I have learned that God really is our Heavenly Father, a perfect being who loves all of his children more than any imperfect earthly father could. Because of his love he has provided a means for all to return to him who so choose. A means of salvation based on personal choices and forgiveness. A means of salvation that is independent of; economic situation; where, when, or how long someone has lived; race or culture. What a testament this is that God loves you and me. Show more Show less
