Hi I'm Alan

I grew up in Idaho and after starting my family, I moved to Arizona. I love this state. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I work for a good company which keeps me busy during the week. I love to be outdoors and involved in those type of activities. My favorite hobby is hiking and backbacking. Living in Arizona, I really enjoy visiting the Grand Canyon and backpacking to the bottom and visiting Phantom Ranch. The joy of exposing new hikers to this thrill continues to be a highlight for me. A few years ago a friend and I hiked in one day from the South Rim to the North and back again. I still marvel at the beauty one experiences while involved in this type of sport. I like to stay active and involved in anything outdoors. In addition to backpacking, I take young people and teach them how to rappel. This sport can be dangerous, however it is a delight to see and feel the exhuberance of a successful rappel by a young participant. Recently I have become certified in Scuba diving. What a delight to see another type of world. As one can see, I do like to be moving around and learning new skills and also involving others in my new found treasures.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family that practiced this Faith. Even with that type of beginning it took me a while to find for myself the same type of convictions. I served a church mission to Japan and really enjoyed the opportunity to express my thoughts and feelings to the people there. I feel that it is important for a person to have an identity with our inner soul in relation as to who we are and why we are on this earth. Through study and personal prayer I can honestly say that our lifes on this earth does have meaning and application in all that we do. I am a Mormon because I feel that it is important to use and have important guidelines available for the daily challenges associated with earth life. It is very comforting to know that my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love me and are aware of who I am. This is very personal and yet it gives me great comfort during my challenges.

How I live my faith

It is exciting to be alive at this time. While there are many challenges associated with our mortal existance, we are not alone and have the support of our Heavenly Father. I have been blessed in my life to have had the opportunity to work with the youth of the church. Through activities I have been able to relate my life experiences and learned values to them and to help them as they encounter challenges. This experience has not only helped them but has enriched my life as the younger generation applies this knowledge. We are taught the through Service our own spirit will be strengthened. I have tried to apply this approach as I serve not only the youth of our faith but community members as well. Many of our projects have a direct affect of individuals outside of our religious community. I have lead many a young scout down the path toward his Eagle Scout award and have encouraged him while preparing for his Eagle project to look outside of his normal realm. Often this allows him to be of service to his fellow community members while at the sametime giving him the chance to experience the positive feeling for being involved. By living my Faith, I believe a natural by-product is to be positive in my approach to everyday responsibilities. By having confidence in who I am and Why I am placed on Earth, I feel assured that what I do here and how I deal and work with all a round me, I feel happy all of the time. I know that my life is important and the manner in which I affect people is a key part of my relationship with my Savior.
