Hi I'm Barry Reed Whitesides

I grew up in a small town in Utah called Layton, a community of about 5-8 thousand people.Moved to Colorado in 79 I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Barry. I have worked in the financial servies industry since 1980. I was the 1st person in my family to graduate from College. Went to Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. Served an LDS Mission to Bristol England . Met a wonderful lady at Weber State University who is now my eternal companion . We have now been married for 40 years this December. We have two wonderful children who are married. We have 2 grandchildren and being a grand parent is one of the best experience you will ever have in your life. I love helping people and seeing their lives change. I enjoy playing golf and racquet ball. I played football in school and enjoy watching it today. I have been a Bronco fan since moving to Colorado in 1979. I also enjoy Hockey. My wife and I were introduced to Hockey shortly after we were married. It has become my second favorite sport. We really like the Avalanche. We try to go to a few games every year.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church. However at the age of 15 I questioned everything about the church. I really didn't know it was true. The next year I had a life changing event. I came down with Spinal Meningitis. I was taken to the hospital and soon fell into a coma. While I was out I was given 3 different Priesthood blessings. In each blessing I was told that I would completely recover. After a week in the hospital I had completely recovered. I was checked out by several specialists because of the miraculous recovery. I was released from the hospital and sent home. When I went into the hospital I weighed 155 lbs. When I went home I weighed 120 lbs. I was told several times that I should not even be alive. I began to study more about the Church of Jesus Christ of Later day Saints and came to my own conclusion after much prayer and reading that the Book of Mormon and the church was true. I was a miracle to many people around me. I then went on to serve a mission for the church which I was promised in my blessings I would do. I learned more about other religions. My testimony of the gospel grew even more as I studied and learned more about other churches and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. My testimony has continued to grow as I have served in many callings in the Church. I am very active in my church.

How I live my faith

I served as a Bishop of my ward for 5 years 3 months. I loved this calling more than any other calling I have ever had in the church. It's so rewarding to see peoples lives change for the better. To see people accept Christ as their Savior and make changes that make them a better person. This not only changes them but everyone that associates with them. Christ is my Redeemer and Savior. I am grateful every day for the sacrifice he made for me so I can return to my Father in Heaven. I am now serving with the older men in the church. I really enjoy helping others. I try to be a good example of what I believe. I ask myself all the time what would the Savior do. If I think that is something he would do I will do it. I follow the Ten Commandments and that its part of my core values. I love the Bible and the Book of Mormon, plus the modern day scriptures that we enjoy by having living Prophets on the earth today. It is great and wonderful experience to listen to the words of the leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I know that what they are telling me comes from God. He would not abandon us today, just as there were ancient Prophets like Moses and Noah, we have Prophets today to teach us and guide us through this world of conflict and strife.
