Hi I'm Burton

I was raised in Utah, the descendent of Mormon pioneers. I'm a software engineer and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Most importantly, I am the father of four wonderful children. I find joy in the outdoors, camping, riding horses, boating, fishing, hiking, and simply finding awe with the amazing world my Heavenly Father has created for me. I was married to my best friend, and the most remarkable woman I know, but who died in 2010. I love animals and have a house full with a dog, lizard, snake, rabbit, four cats, and two horses. I have worked as a software developer and leader for over twenty five years having worked on everything from rocket design to accounting software. I love learning new things and the creative process. I seem to always be building or creating something - anything from an oil painting, to welding something practical. Most of all, I love creating things with my children who, next to Jesus Christ, are the center of my world.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was raised as a Mormon, I have developed faith in Jesus Christ and his gospel over time, starting from an early age. I don't think I ever doubted that Jesus is my Savior, and continue to learn at deeper levels about His atoning sacrifice. I know beyond doubt that my Heavenly Father knows me, individually, and has great love and compassion for me. I continue to live my faith because it provides me with great strength and comfort in the hardest of times, and because I know that I can be with my family throughout the eternities by living my life in accordance with the teachings of Christ.

How I live my faith

My greatest love is working with the youth, starting with my own children. I have been blessed with opportunities to share my time, skills and knowledge primarily with teenagers who don't often spend time in the outdoors with their immediate families. I work have worked with the Boy Scouts of America organization for over twelve years. But the greatest use of my time is teaching my children about Jesus Christ and his gospel. These opportunities often come when working together or creating something together. The gospel of Jesus Christ is all about touching the individual, and working side-by-side with someone is the best way to accomplish that. I try to live a life of service by helping others whenever possible, and I am thrilled to see my children following in those footsteps.

What do Mormons believe happens to us after we die? What do Mormons believe about life after death?

Burton
Our mortal lives are just a small part of an infinite spiritual life we have as children of our Heavenly Father. Death is the gateway and next step toward eternal life. After this life, we will all go to the spirit world to learn and continue to progress. Those who have lived good lives will help those who have not in preparing for the resurrection. Those who have never had a chance to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ will receive that chance in the Spirit World and choose whether to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, or not. Because of the Atonement of the Savior, all mankind will be resurrected. Additionally, all mankind will be judged according to their works and receive an eternal reward commensurate with their deeds. Those who have followed the commandments of the Lord will not only be resurrected, but will also have eternal life in the presence of Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father. Show more Show less
