Hi I'm Richard

I'm a Mormon. I joined the Church in 1986 while I was stationed in England with the USAF.

About Me

My name is Richard, the product of 3 generations of military family life. I enjoy fishing, working on cars, and country life. My wife and I are currently working to open a therapy clinic for returning combat veterans and their families so they can successfully reintegrate into productive civilian lives together as a family . We joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1986 while serving with the US Air Force in England. Roanne, my wife, and I have two grown children and at last count 10 grandchildren. We serve in the Seattle Washington Temple and teach the 10 year olds in Primary class on Sundays.

Why I am a Mormon

We knew, as a family, that something was missing from our lives. A void that no amount of activities or distractions could fill. As a family, we knelt down together as prayed. Something we'd never done before as we had very little training or education in a religious enviornment. We met the LDS missionaries on a freezing cold November evening in England when they stopped by our cottage looking for another house. We invited them in and started asking questions. We knew very little about the LDS Church, but they answered all of our questions over the next two months of almost weekly visits. We felt that void slowly being filled by the power of the Holy Ghost, testifiying to us that what these young men were telling us was true. We read the Book of Mormon and started attending church services almost 40 miles away from our home. We were immediately welcomed into their meetings and their lives. Twenty-five years latter I can honestly say our prayers were answered. I have never regretted or questioned our decision to join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

How I live my faith

Our lives are centered around the teachings of Jesus Christ and the laws and ordinances of the Gospel. Roanne and I both serve in the Temple, teach the 10 year olds in our ward (congregation), and Roanne serves a Stake calling in the adult women's organization (Relief Society). By following the example of the life of Jesus Christ, treating everyone we meet equally as a brother or sister with an eye to their needs and circumstances ensures that we stay close to the principles of the Gospel and appreciate the love Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father have for us, His children here on Earth, even more. Roanne and I also love the family history program of the Church. It enables us to reach back into time and really gain an understanding and knowledge about our ancestors. After finding their information and documenting the facts, we are blessed to be able to take their names to the Temple to complete the ordinances necessary for our being united with them forever. We are both active in Red Cross, CERT, and Citizens Corps organizations and are trained in emergency response and disaster preparedness. This will enable us to be an assest and a support to the community in times of disaster and chaos.
