Hi I'm Alan

I grew up in Idaho and live in Colorado. I have been a programmer and a librarian. I am a father and grandfather. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the father of five children and grandfather of seven. I have been a librarian, a programmer, a database administrator, and a library technology specialist. I enjoy being with my family. I enjoy working on projects in our home with my wife. We both are avid readers, and enjoy old favorites as well as new books. We enjoy photography and seeing new places.

Why I am a Mormon

My ancestors on both sides of my family have been members of the Mormon Church for several generations. I grew up with pioneer and missionary stories. However, as a youth, I did not attend church very often. I did try to live the standards of the church as I knew them. I attended college and there began attending on a regular basis. Because of what I was taught and the example of those around me, I increased my belief in the Church. I was blessed to receive my own assurance from our Heavenly Father that the things I believed in were true. I am grateful for the knowledge I received that our Heavenly Father exists and loves all of us, even me! I came to know that Jesus Christ is His Son, our Redeemer and Savior. I also received assurance that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God, selected to re-establish the fullness of Christ's church in our time. I know that the revelations he received were from God, including the Book of Mormon. I also know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true and living church. I know that we are guided by a prophet today, President Thomas S. Monson.

How I live my faith

I have found joy in serving in the church. The church has helped me find ways to serve. By living its teachings, I have found happiness in work, with my family, and in my community. I have seen my children also find happiness in living the principles and teachings, learning to serve others, and have families of their own. I was able to serve a mission here in the United States. My wife, before we were married, also served a mission. That experience helped both of us to learn to live with other people, be more tolerant, and have a better understanding of other's needs and how we can help them. I have served in several positions since my mission. I have spent several years performing clerking duties and currently keep the financial records for our congregation.

Are Mormons Christians?

We are Christians. We believe that the Babe born of a virgin, in Bethlehem, was indeed the Son of God. We believe that he is the only sinless mortal to walk the earth. We proclaim with Peter that he is the Christ, the Messiah, the very Son of the Living God. We believe that Christ has the words of eternal life. We believe that He went about doing good, healing the sick, raising the dead, and helping all around Him We know that because He was willing to suffer in Gethsemane and on the cross, that our sins can be forgiven us. We also know that because he was resurrected, all mankind will be resurrected. We pray and worship in His name. Jesus Christ is the center of our religion. The very name of the Church proclaims Him as the head of the Church. The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ, which witnesses of His divinity and atonement. Show more Show less
