Hi I'm John

I'm a Mormon. I've lived in Arizona and New Mexico all of my life. I have been in education for 33 years.

About Me

My wife and I have six children and 20 grandchildren. We met when I worked in her home town and we both then went to the same university. We have been happily married for 37 years. Our family is the most important thing to both of us. Over my years of teaching I have been privileged to coach several sports and have worked with some wonderful youth. I also have served as a scoutmaster in three different states and I am currently on my fourth Scout Troop. Besides working with youth I love astronomy, leather craft and golf.

Why I am a Mormon

My family has been in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints since the 1850's. My great grandfather was a coal miner in England where he joined the Church. He emigrated to the United States and my family have been faithful members ever since. Even though I was born into an LDS family I had to find out for myself the truth of Christ's mission. My last few years of high school and my first year of college were important years. It was then that I studied and prayed to find what the Savior wanted me to do. I learned for myself that He lives and that He loves us. I learned for myself that He has reestablished His Church on the earth again. I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is His Church and offers us the opportunity to live with Him again. It provides me the opportunity to be with my wife and family for eternity.

How I live my faith

I try every day as I teach and coach to be a good example to the youth I work with. This world offers them plenty of opportunity to observe bad examples. My wife and I want to show them what a strong marriage looks like. She travels with me on the bus to games and we always want to demonstrate to those I work with how much we love each other. Over the years I have been able to serve in the communities I have lived in. I have served as a town councilman, a mayor, a city judge, and as a school superintendent. My goal was to always be as honest and caring as I could be. I hope I have been and I hope I can always be an example of a follower of Christ. My current Church assignment is to work with the young men between the ages of 12 and 18. I appreciate the kind of young men they are. They have values that will help them be happy and successful as they move into adulthood. I work with them but they are more of a blessing to me than I think I am to them. As they have grown up learning of the Savior they are well on their way to becoming like Him. It is very gratifying to see them perform service for others. It is gratifying to see the growth that comes to them as they forget themselves and think of others.
