Hi I'm John

I grew up in Nevada and was the first (and only) member of my family to join the Church.

About Me

I'm the father of 4 great children. 2 are out of college and married. 1 is still in college and then we have the caboose who is a sophmore in high school. I love to read and I love the outdoors. Especially the mountains. I miss living in the mountains.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up as a non-Mormon in a fairly Mormon community. I swore as a young man that I would never join the Church. I'm a voracious reader. I was on board a ship at sea a few years after I graduated high school and ran out of books to read from my personal library save one. The Book of Mormon. From the moment I began reading, I had a powerful feeling come over me that it was true. I reasoned that if the Book of Mormon was true, then the Church was true as well. I set aside my personal prejudices at that point and resolved myself to join the Church. Since that point I have grown in ways that I cannot describe in this short format. Suffice it to say that when I consider what my life would have likely have been had I not had this experience, I shudder with anxiety and relief. I've learned who I am and what I mean to a loving Heavenly Father. Its made me a much better Husband and Father than I would have been otherwise.

How I live my faith

I've held most leadership positions at the Ward and Stake level including Bishop. I now serve as a member of our Stake High Council which is a group of 12 men who help to minister to members of the local area and adminster the affairs of the Church. But more than the time that I spend serving within the Church, my faith helps define how I deal with life in general. When I face the normal stresses of life today, I try to remind myself that every person I meet is a Child of Heavenly Father. Its tougher to be mad at people if I keep that in mind. I also remind myself that I am an example at all times. The only question is, will I be a good example or a bad example.
