Hi I'm Jack

I'm a composer, arranger, jazz educator and a Mormon.

About Me

I am a retired educator, I taught instrumental music (band and orchestra) in elementary and secondary schools for 36 years, 33 of those in one Wyoming school district. During those years, I composed, and wrote arrangements, performing them with my students and others. I also developed and operated a sole proprietorship for 28 years, servicing, repairing and tuning pianos and other keyboard instruments. In 1997 my colleagues selected me as Wyoming Music Educator of the Year. In my retirement years, I am busier than ever. Upon my retirement I have, with the invaluable assistance of three sons, completely redecorated and refurbished our residence. I came out of retirement to provide Brass instruction at a local college.and to establish a jazz ensemble program at a performing arts high school. Because I desired to do so, I wrote all of the charts for this group. The program has continued to grow toward a full size jazz ensemble and I have continued to write for this group of students. (I love students and I love music!) I find teaching to be a most rewarding and satisfying endeavor.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have received a witness from the Holy Ghost that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the restored Church of Jesus Christ. After obtaining that witness, I am obligated to live by what I know to be true. The keystone of that testimony is the Book of Mormon. I know beyond and without any doubt that the Book of Mormon is the word of God, and following its precepts brings me closer to Him. I would say that being a Mormon is what defines me more than any other characteristic, for I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

How I live my faith

I am grateful that I have time to volunteer and serve in my faith and in my community. I consider it as a blessing and opportunity that brings me joy. I have completed a two and a half year church service mission at our local Family History Center. I find that I gain more than I ever give in serving. Previous to that my wife and I together served a Church Service mission in Wisconsin. We worked with High School and College age youth in Church Education. It was among the most satisfying and fulfilling experiences of our lives. Currently, my wife and I are serving as humanitarian welfare missionaries in Germany. We love to serve our Heavenly Father with all of our time, effort and ability. We find that associated with each mission we have served, we have developed talent and abilities that were previously undiscovered.

What is the Book of Mormon?

Jack
Because many religious truths are intangible, it seems that many of us desire some kind of a tangible aid, enabling us to obtain a better understanding of gospel truth. The Lord has provided the Book of Mormon as tangible evidence we can hold in our hands, peruse, and evaluate, that His restored Church is again on the earth. An evil tree cannot bring forth good fruit. If the Book of Mormon is true, and if it verily is the word of God, then it must have come to us from a Divine source. It then follows that Joseph Smith was called and authorized of God to translate the book from ancient metal plates delivered to him by an angel, and to organize and establish the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
