Hi I'm Elyse

I love hiking, reading biographies, and spending time with family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have an older sister and three younger brothers. I always liked climbing trees as a small kid, and that probably explains why I still enjoy running, volleyball, rowing, and pretty much any sport you can name. For college I studied chemistry in upstate New York, and after my sophomore year served as a missionary in Southern Chile before returning home to finish my degree. Learning is wonderful! I am once again a student as I am going to pharmacy school and interning at a local hospital. In between sports and studying, I also enjoy reading about great people and serving in the community.

Why I am a Mormon

My dad's family has been in the church for generations, while my mom joined the LDS church at age 16. My parents eventually met, were married, and then faithfully raised me and my siblings practicing gospel standards in our home. As a young teenager I wanted to know how my parents could be so sure our religion was true. I asked my dad how he knew that Joseph Smith really was a prophet. He wisely discerned that my real question was how I could know it was true, and he told me that I would have to pray and ask Heavenly Father for myself. I followed his advice and went to my room to pray and I asked God if the things I had learned were true. I felt so good and peaceful, and I knew that was an answer to my prayer. Since then I have had other experiences where I've been able to feel by the Holy Spirit that the teachings are true and that it is Christ's church. There are so many blessings in my life today that I know have come from following the teachings I learned in my youth.

How I live my faith

Everyday we are faced with so many new faces and situations. At work, school, home or wherever I am, I always try to remember how much God loves each of His children and to treat them accordingly. Sometimes I'll teach lessons in church about topics like faith or charity and help encourage others to do the same. There are constant opportunities to show my beliefs through my actions.
