Hi I'm Sterling

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a married to a wonderful woman and have two great and energetic kids…yea…energetic. I work for an airline and love airplanes and flying, I hope to have a pilot’s license before too long. To the dismay of my mother and some others, (not my wife, she likes it) I bought my first motorcycle about a year ago and I am having a good time with it. We live in the Northwest part of the country and this is among the most beautiful places on earth. My life is not without challenges but I am happy and I work to live a life that will please the Lord.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up Mormon and was baptized when I turned eight years old. I don’t remember my baptism or much of my childhood. As an early teen I began to search out who I was, I decided I did not want the responsibility that came along with the Christian life. I actively sought to avoid church, even asked to work on Sundays and did my best to avoid what I'd been taught. At the age of 19 young men in the Mormon Church can choose to serve the Lord as missionaries and many do. When the time came for me I continued in my path and chose not to; however something remained unsettled with my conscience. As my friends chose to serve missions I saw their happiness and heard their testimonies. I was forced to confront what I had been running from for past years. With pondering and prayer I came to realize that what I had learned throughout my life had been confirmed by the Spirit of God, and then knew Jesus is the Christ and my Savior. Ultimately I chose to serve as a missionary and for the last near 16 years I have sought to live my life as a disciple of Christ. With ups and downs and a very much imperfect life I have found joy in serving my Lord. I also find Joy in my family and am grateful to my Savior for His sacrifice for me and for the opportunity to have this life, to repent and be forgiven of my sins. This life is a time to prepare to meet God and as I learn and grow in the Gospel of Jesus Christ I will continue to strive to know my God, my Father, and my Savior Jesus Christ and live my life as they would have me.

How I live my faith

When Jesus taught Simon (Peter) in John 26, what he was to do as an apostle and disciple he first asked Simon if he loved Him. Simon answered: “Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee.” Then Jesus said: “Feed my sheep.” With this simple declaration, “Feed my sheep” the Lord taught us that we are to look after and care for each other. So, as disciples and members of His Church we care for and watch over each other. As we are all children of God we work to gain camaraderie and brotherhood. One of the ways I help do this is to organize events and service projects for some men and families in our congregation. I continue to help in the missionary effort by assisting the missionaries in teaching opportunities and sharing the good news of the gospel. In Matthew 25 Jesus taught that the first and greatest commandment is to: “love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind…And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself”. I try to remember these scriptures as I try to live as His disciple.
