Hi I'm Doug

I enjoy golf, scuba diving, riding dirt bikes and wood working. I am a husband and father of four boys. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the fourth of 8 children. I grew up in the high desert of Southern California on a small ranch. At an early age my parents taught me the value of hard work. I remember working long hours beside my father, mother and siblings as we performed the necesary labors around our small ranch. I now live in Washington where I have been practicing dentistry for fifteen years and love what I do. I am a husband and father of four young boys. I enjoy many activities such as golf, dirt bike riding, scuba diving, traveling and woodworking. I love to stay busy whether it is doing projects around the house or out enjoying my favorite activities. My favorite activity of all is being with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the Mormon church but that is not why I am a Mormon. It simply means I did not have to look far and wide to find the gospel of Jesus Christ. As a youth my parents offered me their testimony that this was the correct path that I should be on but it was up to me as I grew to find out for myself if indeed this church was true. As I grew I studied the scriptures and the teachings of our church and line upon line, little by little, I came to know beyond any doubt that this was the only true church. This knowledge came through the sweet whiperings of the Holy Ghost who testifies of the truths of God's plan. My beliefs define who I am and guide me everyday in nearly every decision and every interpersonal interaction I have. Because of the things I know to be true I face everyday with the knowledge that I can one day live with my family in the presence of my Heavenly Father again. This knowledge gives me an eternal perspective when life seems mundane or when it seems difficult. God has a plan for us and if we live according to that plan we will have joy in this life and eternal happiness in the life to come.

How I live my faith

One of the greatest teachings Christ gave us is that we should live our faith through service. I try to do this everyday. Whether it is stopping to help someone whose car is broken or serving at the local foodbank, service opportunities are all round us. My greatest chance to serve came when I was 19 years old and was called to serve a 2-year mission in the country of Colombia, South America. I grew to not only love the people of Colombia but also grew to love the Lord. I developed, during this time, an unwavering testimony of Jesus Christ and of HIs gospel. Since that time I have had many other opportunities to serve in my church. I have worked teaching and doing activities with youth of the church as well as helped oversee large congregations of adults and youth. My Sundays are often long days because that is when much of my service to the church takes place. But, I love being able to give back a little to my Heavenly Father who has given me so much. As an ancient prophet once said: "When ye are in the service of your felllow beings ye are only in the service of your God" Most of the service I give is to my family. They are utltimately the reason that I believe and do what I do. My main focus in life right now is to teach my 4 young sons to be honorable, hard working, respectful to others and devoted followers of Christ. My family is the only thing I can take with me after I leave this life. Heavenly Father has shown me I can be with them forever as an eternal family and that is what matters most.
