Hi I'm Danette

I am a wife. I am a stay-at-home mom of 4 kids. I love my family, cooking and photography among many other things. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Fresno, California - the oldest of six kids (5 girls and 1 boy). I attended Brigham Young University where I majored in Nursing. My husband and I were married while we were both attending school there. We had our oldest near the end of my 4th year there. I had a year left to graduate as an RN, but couldn't stand the idea of leaving my little boy during the day, so I put off school to be a stay-at-home mom. I have never regretted that decision. From there my husband did 11 more years of school to become a pediatric gastroenterologist. Now that my 4 children are all in school (they range from ages 14 to 7) I made the decision to enter BYU's Independent Study program to get my Bachelor of General Studies degree majoring in Family Life. It's definitely a juggle caring for my family and fitting in school - but I love it! I also have a love of photography and food. I use my photography to illustrate my journal (a.k.a. my family blog). I would also love to attend culinary school when I finish my bachelors degree. I love being my kid's biggest fan at their sports games, gymnastics, and dance events. We also love to swim, ripstick, bike, travel, and bake together. It's been fun to watch my kids develop the same love of cooking that I have. My husband and I have been married for 16 years.

Why I am a Mormon

I love my Mormon faith. I love how it makes me feel - it brings me peace. Because of my faith I know that I am a daughter of God and that he loves me. I know that Jesus Christ is my brother and that he died for me so that I can repent and live with my Heavenly Father again someday. Because I'm a Mormon I know that I can be with my family forever, not just until death. Because I'm a Mormon I understand that God has a plan for me - that he knows me personally and individually. I know that if I follow his commandments and work the hardest I can to do what's right, I can be with him and my family after this life. That is such a comfort to me! I'm a Mormon because I've prayed to my Heavenly Father and received the most undeniable, comforting feeling letting me know that I was in the right place, doing what he wants me to be doing, living the way he wants me to be living. I've never doubted it. How wonderful that God actually answers our prayers. He loves us so much, and I feel that love every day.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by making it a central part of my life. Attending church on Sunday is a priority. I work with the children at church ages 3 through 12 - teaching them about how much our Heavenly Father loves us, his plan for us to return to him, and our Savior Jesus Christ's role in helping us be able to do that because of his sacrifice for us. The funny thing is they teach me as much as I teach them. They are such amazing examples to me! I see them serving their families. I see and hear of their love for Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I see them standing up for what is right in a world where that can be very hard at times. I'm proud of them! My children also attend youth group every week. They participate in Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and my high-school age son attends seminary every weekday for an hour to learn more about the scriptures. As a family we read the scripture together daily. We have a great love for the Bible and The Book of Mormon. We pray individually and as a family each day. Once a week we set aside an evening for Family Night. We usually have a short values-related lesson, play a short game of some kind (hide and seek is a favorite!), and end with treats (their favorite part!). We encourage our children to be kind to everyone around them, to look for ways to be a good friend to someone who may be needing a friend, and to try to be like Jesus Christ because his life was the perfect example for us to follow.
