Hi I'm Dion

I'm an attorney, a combat veteran, a husband, and a father. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a small town to hardworking parents who taught me honesty and a deep faith in the Lord, Jesus Christ. Exercising that faith, at the age of 19, I left the only house I ever lived in and traveled to Panama to share the gospel of Jesus Christ for two years. As I shared, I learned to serve and love others. Upon returning to the U.S., I worked my way through college, as a custodian, a farm hand, a truck driver and a heavy equipment operator. I also joined the National Guard. Halfway through college I married my wonderful wife. Four years later, I was among the first contigency to enter Iraq during the Iraqi war. I spent twelve months living next to the Baghdad airport, and fourteen months away from my sweet wife and our two year old daughter. Leaving my wife alone to take care of our young daughter, was one of the hardest things I have done. Yet with each sacrifice comes great blessings. My love for my family increased, and I gained a stronger understanding of service to one's family, community, and nation, and upon returning, I decided to further my education to better serve. Now I am a government attorney.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is Jesus Christ's church. Only time differentiates it from the Church He set up in the meridian of times. Hence it is His Church in these Latter days. I am also a Mormon because the Gospel of Jesus Christ provides all of the answers to life; it teaches us what we need to know, do, and become in order to return to live with our Heavenly Father and our loved ones forever. This Church requires sacrifice, but Jesus taught us that if we are to receive all that the Father has, we must follow in His footsteps. The wonderful thing is that the byproducts of following the teachings of Jesus are immense happiness and increased love. The Church teaches me to put my family first. It provides me opportunities to serve at church and in the community. It teaches me that education is important and that provident living helps me circumvent economic distress. It teaches me to avoid addictive habits such as pornography, drugs, gambling, and smoking, all of which take away freedom. It helps me to act for myself, and not to be acted upon. It provides me ideas and support in teaching my children to avoid bad habits too. I know this Church teaches the true doctrine of Jesus Christ. I know it because I live it and I see the fruits of its teachings—love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance (see Galatians 5:22-23). If you would like to know more about the gospel of Jesus Christ, I invite you to talk to missionaries or members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You may find them in your neighborhood or contact them through Mormon.org.

How I live my faith

The gospel of Jesus Christ provides purpose to my life. His teachings provide me with understanding, direction, and duty. Imagine how much more you could accomplish and how much more fulfilling your life would be if you just knew your purpose in life! If you knew that you are a Son or Daughter of a living God and that the gospel can teach you all you need to know and do to return to our Father's presence and become like Him someday, would you live your life differently? If so, I invite you to learn more about the Gospel of Jesus Christ that you may know for yourself that it is true. The Lord needs you on His side, doing His work, and I invite you get up and do the work required of a Child of God--an heir of eternity.
