Hi I'm Scott

I'm a native Coloradoan. I'm an Army Officer. I love the outdoors, my family, helping others, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a small town in Northern Colorado. I love the mountains, and just wish I could get up into them more often! RIght now I teach military science to future Army officers at a Univeristy. It is a great job, and I feel a lot of satisfaction knowing that they will be some of the future leaders of our country. My wife and I just had our first baby, a little girl, in March. She keeps us busy and happy! My life has had lots of ups and downs, but I feel so blessed for where I have been, where I am at, and for what the future has in store. I'm a very happy guy. :)

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I know that following the teachings of Christ is what leads me to being happy in life, and I love having a prophet on the Earth today who teaches me what Christ would have me hear in our times right now. Originally, I was born into a Mormon family. My father's family have been Mormons since Joseph Smith was alive, and my mother is a first generation Mormon. That being said I when I was old enough to start acting independently, I had to make a choice about how much I wanted to follow their faith. After drifting around a little, I found that I really wasn't happy, and the friends I had made that weren't living the standards I'd learned at church weren't really happy either. I decided to actually try living the Gospel and teachings of my parents and the Prophets. It was amazing how much happier I was in all the aspects of my life. Ever since then I have tried to live as Chirst would have me live. I have made mistakes and been unhappy, but knowing that He forgives, I work to overcome the mistakes I make, and have found more happiness than I would have ever imagined. I am greatful for every new day I am given to learn and serve and be happy!

How I live my faith

In a word... Service. I believe in serving others as much as I can. It is at the core of how I live my faith. A scripture in the Book of Mormon says, "when you are in the service of your fellow beings you are only in the service of your God." I guess I like the efficiency of serving both at the same time! :) There are LOTS of other ways I try to live my faith. I put my family, immediate and extended, high on my priority list. I try hard to treat my body with the respect God would have me treat it with (I don't drink or smoke, I try to eat healthy and exercise, I don't have any tattoos...etc.) I pray...everyday...at least once before I go to bed, but much more than that if I don't get too busy and distracted (nope...not perfect!) Last thing I'll mention is that I promote two things...first, what I believe God has said is right, and Second, every individual's freedom to choose for themselves what they will do.

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

Scott
In short, to learn. To learn how to communicate with God, and learn choose to do what he would have us do. To learn about the proper use of and need for a physical body. To learn to live as families. We have a LOT to learn. Show more Show less
