Hi I'm Kent

I grew up in Canada. My grandparents on both sides of my famiy joined the Mormon church. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a dad with children and grandchildren. My wife and I enjoy spending time together and with our family. I enjoy gardening as well as cooking and canning. My profession as an accountant has provided me rewarding opportunities in the corporate world. On the job training in mainframe programing landed me a job when I was having difficulty finding work in the accounting/finance arena. When I was 19 I served as a missionary for the Mormon Church for 2 1/2 years. I had the opportunity to serve in France and came to love the French people. Half my mission was spent in Paris. I love Paris and enjoy the opportunity of speaking French.

Why I am a Mormon

My membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church) has given me peace, happiness and a wonderful understanding of our Savior Jesus Christ and his role as Savior and Redeemer of all mankind. The Book of Mormon that was translated by our founder and prophet Joseph Smith provides additional insight into our Heavenly Father's plan and proves the truthfulness of the Holy Bible. Like the Bible, the Book of Mormon gives an account of a people who had prophets and followed the Law of Moses. They knew of the Savior's coming more that 500 years before His birth. They migrated to the Americas from the land of Jerusalem. Their prophets taught doctrines and principles that mirrored those taught in the Old World and included the Law of Moses and other Old Testament prophets. I consider it a sacred record and is a key factor in helping me to live closer to my Savior. In a world in which we have so much chaos and confusion about what is right and what is wrong, it's comforting to know that today we still have prophets who take direction from a loving Father in Heaven. They receive revelations pertinent to our time so we can know how to better direct our lives. I know that Heavenly Father loves all of His children and that His plan includes the teaching about Jesus Christ to all who have ever lived on the earth including future unborn generations. Those who die without this knowledge will be taught after they die and given the opportunity to accept or to reject Him. It is only thru Jesus Christ that we can be saved. I love the emphasis that the Church gives on the family. I love it that I can attend any congregation of our churh thoughout the world and will hear the same doctrines taught wherever I go. There is a great unity of church members. I feel the same spirit of love and kindness no matter where I go. The greatest gift that I have as a Mormon is the gift of the Holy Ghost which help guide my choices.

How I live my faith

As a Mormon I have been baptised which includes the making of convenants to follow the Savior's teachings. I have convenated to help others bear their burdens. Each week those covenants are renewed as I partake of the holy sacrament. I have received the holy Priesthood of God which gives me the responsibility and the privilege to watch over a few families in our congregation. Accompanied by another Priesthood holder, we visit our families at least once each month and leave an inspirational message. We determine any special needs of our families and assist them or obtain assistance in their behalf from other members of our ward family. I find much comfort in daily gospel study and daily prayers. Weekly attendance at our meetings helps me renew my committment to the Lord in serving and keeping my covenants. I sing in the ward choir which I find very rewarding. I feel my Savior's love through participation. I have always had a calling in my ward. I have taught Sunday School, Primary, Cub Scouts and even served in the Nursery. I have held many other positions throughout my life and have found much satisfaction in my serving in the Church. I treat others with respect and kindness. I love and honor my wife and children. Currently I oversee areas that involve multiple wards (which form a Stake.) I'm over the sports program, the youth dance program, music and cultural arts.
