Hi I'm Spencer

I'm from Georgia. I'm a college student finishing my Masters in Accounting at BYU. I'm a huge sports fan, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college student at BYU finishing my Masters in Accounting. I just recently signed a job offer to go work for an Accounting firm in San Jose, California, and I will be moving out there in the fall of 2014. I love play and watching all kinds of sports including football, basketball, soccer, and tennis. I love skiing here in Utah during the winter in some of the greatest snow in the world. I played football and ran track in High School and love running and staying in shape. I have run 5 half-marathons, a couple of RAGNAR relay races, and many 5Ks and 10Ks. I learned Spanish serving an LDS mission in Tempe, Arizona from 2008 to 2010 and it was definitely the greatest two years of my life. I loved the people that I served and I gained a great appreciation for this Hispanic culture. In 2011 I was able to go on a study abroad to Spain, and in 2012 I lived for 4 months in Korea. The world is so diverse and I love meeting new people, seeing other cultures and other people's lifestyles. I love traveling and hope to be able to travel more in the future.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was raised in the LDS faith, it wasn't until I served a mission that I truly realized what being a Mormon means to me. All throughout my early years and high school, I relied on my parent's testimony and battled with them over my interpretations of what was right in life and what was wrong. Although I will say I believed many of the principals of the gospel that what I had been taught since my youth, my foundation was shaky at best and I didn't have a strong inner conviction of why I lived the way I did. Serving a mission was the best decision that I have made in my life. It was hard, grueling work day after day with no break, but through adversity and challenges I was able to grow in my testimony of the gospel as well as my understanding of how living a Christ-centered life can change your life. I know that following the gospel principles such as reading the scriptures, praying to Heavenly Father, and actively participating in church services will bring happiness and joy to one's life because I have seen it work not only in the lives of others, but in mine as well.

How I live my faith

This church and the Gospel of Jesus Christ means the world to me. It is not an accident that the happiest moments of my life have occurred when I have also been the closest to my Savior and to my Heavenly Father. It is amazing how much having the Spirit with you can change your inner happiness and perspective on life even with little change in your life circumstances. In my life, I have been able to find great peace by reading the scriptures, communicating with my Heavenly Father through prayer, and staying away from harmful addictions.
