Hi I'm Shane

I'm an art teacher. I run my car on vegetable oil. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a man of many interests. I enjoy SCUBA diving, backpacking, and skiing but I frequently lack the time and money to do them often. I am an art teacher; my favorite subject to teach is ceramics but I also teach jewelry making and drawing. I work hard to support my family on a teacher's salary but I am proud to say that my wife is able to stay home with the kids. I am currently in school pursuing administrator credentials. My favorite hobby these days is working on my 1982 Volkswagen diesel that I have converted to run on heated vegetable oil. I collect used oil from two local restaurants in town, filter it and pour it directly into my secondary, heated tank in my trunk. I concoct biodiesel, which also uses used vegetable oil, and pour it in my original fuel tank. I start the car on the biodiesel and then push a button on my dash which switches the fuel source to the secondary tank and I ride for free at forty miles per gallon. I enjoy taking my family on day trips and driving my wife to the temple an hour and a half away from home all for free.

Why I am a Mormon

I come from a large family. Most of us have chosen to continue to attend church regularly. I still attend because I really believe what is taught there. When I was young I went to a Mormon seminary class at six o'clock every morning. I learned a lot about what the church believes. When I served a two year mission in Minnesota I gained an understanding that I actually believed what I was taught. And now those teachings guide my decisions every day. I am a happy man because I live a life of integrity with a clear conscience.

How I live my faith

I like to sing and play the piano. Currently, my assignment at church is to be develop the music for our multi-congregational meetings; choosing the hymns that will be sung and organizing choirs. I enjoy leading thousands of people singing together.
