Hi I'm Derek

I grew up in Boulder, Colorado. I'm a dentist in an under-served area. I love athletics and books. I'm a father. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am married and have two young daughters. I practice dentistry for a living. In my free time I like to run, bike, swim or do other exercise (although I don't do any of these as much as I'd like). I also like to read about various topics including finance and politics since my dental education didn't give me much of that. As a relatively new homeowner, I am developing my handyman skills with the various projects that come up around the house. I love spending time with my wife and family. We often go on walks, watch movies, play board games, or visit other friends and family.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was young, I was a Mormon because the rest of my family was. Now that I am an adult and have had time to mature and make my own decisions, I am a Mormon because experience has shown me that when I live by the teachings of our church I feel good. These good feelings come in the form of inner peace, confidence, fortitude, and joy. Experiencing these feelings with my family has been at the core of all the best experiences of my life.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by striving to live my life with integrity. I have participated in the church in many ways. Most recently, I was a Sunday school teacher for the youth. I have also assisted with various administrative duties for the congregation. I served as a missionary for 2 years in southern Germany. I try to lend a helping hand to my neighbors and friends when needed.
