Hi I'm Lyle

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I am a practicing attorney in Arizona. I speak Spanish.

About Me

I am a husband and father of four children. I am a farm-boy that grew up to become an attorney. I grew up in the LDS Church. I served a mission in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. I attended high school in Casa Grande, Arizona. I earned a B.S. in Agriculture, with a major in Agriculture-Economics from the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. I studied law at Drake University Law School in Des Moines, Iowa. I studied one semester at the Catholic University in La Paz, Bolivia. While I mostly read non-fiction, I do enjoy fiction. I enjoy reading History in general, and US and LDS Church History in particular. I also enjoy studying Economics, Philosophy, and Politics. I identify myself as a libertarian in terms of politics. I also enjoy movies. My favorite movie is Dead Poets Society, but I also really enjoyed the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Harry Potter movies.

Why I am a Mormon

The most import reason I continue in the Church is my belief that God is my Heavenly Father and he loves me as His son. I believe that Heavenly Father speaks to his children just as any loving father would. Through studying what Heavenly Father has told his children in the past (as found in the scriptures) and listening to His communications to me through the Holy Ghost, I have learned that I lived before I was born into this life and that after death, life continues. I have learned Jesus Christ is His Son. I have learned that Heavenly Father sent His Son to show us that God has a plan for each of us. His plan helps me to be happy in this life, even in the midst of difficulties, and prepares me to have joy in the life to come. I believe the most important principle that Jesus taught was to love our fellow man. I strive to love all people. When I fail to love others as I should, I seek forgiveness from them. When others hurt me, I seek to forgive them. I believe that through Jesus' sacrifice I can be forgiven and improve my life so that I can better love others. I also believe that in forgiving, I am free from holding grudges, which allows me to more fully love others. In addition to sending His Son to manifest His love for me, I believe that God organized a church to help us learn Christ's teachings. This Church has existed from the beginning and has always been led by prophets. From time to time, when people refused to follow God's prophets, the Church was withdrawn. When the people would turn their hearts to God again, He would send His Church anew. Most recently, God sent His Church again through Joseph Smith. I believe that Joseph Smith saw the Father and the Son. Through Joseph Smith, the Lord restored His Church to the earth, just as he did in ancient times through Noah, Abraham, Moses, and others. In this restored Church, we can find all of the blessing that God, through His love, desires us to have.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith by serving others whether member of the LDS Church or not in ways that no one else sees. I have served as a bishop in the LDS Church. I currently teach 9 and 10 year old children. I am also a merit badge counselor for the Boy Scouts of America. I also volunteer one day a week in the Mesa LDS Employment Center trying to help others find employment. For me, living my faith, is about trying to be a better person so that I can reflect God's love for his children in the things I do and say. I repent when I fall short and quickly forgive. I seek to live in harmony with others. I love to learn about other beliefs that people follow. In doing so, I have deepened my own understanding of God. Then if possible I like to see if I have something of benefit to add to what others already believe.
