Hi I'm Derek

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love football, baseball, basketball, & soccer. I love to read books on how to have strong marriages & families. I love parenting my four children with my wife Tanya, whom I married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. I love living in a place with super low crime, where neighbors truly care about and for each other. I love my Savior Jesus Christ, and I know that He lives. Growing up in Pennsylvania, I was the only young man in my local high school who was a Latter-day Saint (Mormon). Though I miss many things about Pennsylvania, I love living in Utah with many other Latter-day Saints.

Why I am a Mormon

I started studying The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ when I was about 14 years-old for the first time on my own. I began praying and asking God each day to know if it was true. I didn't get an answer right away. I realized in my own heart that there were things that I was doing in my life, that I knew that I shouldn't be doing. When I decided to repent by asking God for forgiveness for those things and by determining to never do those things again, I felt forgiveness from God, and I believe that that was the price that needed to be paid for God to answer my prayers to know if The Book of Mormon was true, because as soon as I showed my real intent to know if it was true, by being willing to give up my sins (especially my favorite sins) to know God, then the next time I prayed to know if The Book of Mormon was true, I received an answer from God that The Book of Mormon is true. The answer came with feelings of peace and warmth throughout my body. It's hard to describe, but I didn't just desire to believe that it was true anymore, I knew that The Book of Mormon was true. That answer from God, changed my life. I thought I knew happiness before then, but then I knew true happiness! What joy fills my souls to not just believe but to know that God lives, that The Book of Mormon is true, that Joseph Smith is a true prophet of God, and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is God's true Church on Earth! What true meaning my life has now to know that this life is the time to prove that I'm willing to do whatever God wants me to do, so that I can prove myself worthy to return to live with Him someday! I hope that others will read The Book of Mormon themselves to learn about the ancient inhabitants of the Americas and their dealiings with God, and the words of Jesus Christ spoken to their prophets that lived among them.

How I live my faith

I love attending Church with my family and having weekly family meetings with them in our home to plan our week, month, & year, and to teach our children the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I love studying the scriptures (including the Bible & The Book of Mormon) each day individually and with my family. I love praying with my family and individually. I love the friendships I have with other members of the LDS Church in our ward.
