Hi I'm Kirk

I've taught elementary art and p.e. for 26 years. I am becoming a botanical illustrator. I used to run marathons. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am an art and physical education teacher in elementary school. I love to help kids learn to enjoy art and moving their bodies, so they will be healthier, happier individuals. I am learning to be a botanical illustrator. This is an extension of my love for art and plants. I have a large front and back yard which occupies much of my free time. I enjoy working in the garden, planting and cultivating both vegetables and flowers. Each year I add new and interesting plants to my garden. I am married and have five children of my own and two step daughters. My youngest daughter and son-in-law live with my wife and I downstairs with their two children. I have six grandchildren, and number seven and eight are on the way. They have a lot of energy and keep me moving. I enjoy going on walks, bike rides and playing in the backyard with them. Even though I grew up on the coast and miss the beach, I enjoy spending time in the mountains with my wife. Reading is something that I don't get near enough time for, however it has become a passion. I enjoy reading books about botanical illustrating and various novels. Each night before I retire, I spend a few minutes reading the scriptures.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints and have been since college. It wasn't until I became a member, that I understood the great blessing of knowing and understanding God The Father and Jesus Christ and how the Holy Ghost has a significant part in my life. As a member of the church, my life has changed significantly since college. I have learned that freedom is associated with my agency and doing that which I know to be right. I have learned through the Holy Ghost that true freedom and happiness is based upon my desire to live my life though gospel teachings. It is through the teaching of Jesus Christ that I am free to act for myself and not be acted upon by the precepts of man. It is through the Gospel of Jesus Christ that I have hope for the future not only for this life, but for the life to come. I have learned that even though I have made many mistakes in my life, that Jesus Christ has atoned for my sins and for the sins of all man kind. I have learned that I am happiest when I live Gospel principals. I know that I am a better man when I follow the teaching of Jesus Christ and do what I know to be right. I know that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of The Eternal Father in Heaven. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, and that he did indeed see God the Father and Jesus Christ. I know that through revelation, that the Book of Mormon was translated by the gift and power of God. I believe in the bible, but I also know that the Book of Mormon is a second witness of Jesus Christ. It contains great truths that parallels the bible. I testify of these things by the power of the Holy Ghost and in the name of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

It is through the great truths that are revealed to me though the Holy Ghost, that I live my faith. I know that when I live my faith and put Jesus Christ in the center of my life, that I am happier and more grateful for the many blessings that my Father in Heaven has given me. As a husband, father, teacher, student and church member I need to live my life through example. It is the example of Jesus Christ that I try to emulate. I know that I am far from perfect, however I have guidance through the Holy Ghost. It enhances my day and give me hope. I feel that I am a better husband and father when I listen to the Holy Ghost. I am kinder, gentler, more patient and am a better listener. I believe this is true because I am more focused on,l I know that I must hold with me great amounts of love for the students I teach. I know that that gift has been given to me, because I ask for it. I pray for help many times a day. I seek guidance from my Heavenly Father which allows the Holy Ghost to guide me. I know that when I pray by myself and with my family that my life is full, free and beautiful. I know that the Bible and the Book of Mormon are true and that they surely do testify of Jesus Christ. I know that for me the scriptures help me with questions that I have, and that by reading them, my Heavenly Father gives me the answers.
