Hi I'm Martissa

I earned a master's degree in Accounting. I stay at home raising my children. I volunteer in PTA and Cub Scouts. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to sing. Singing is a way for me to express emotions and feelings that words can't express. I'm a Jane Austen fanatic and love reading Austen fanfiction. I have spent some time learning to cook healthy food and I consider it a culinary triumph when I cook a healthy meal my family of six will all eat! That doesn't happen often. I also love going out to lunch. Whenever I can fanagle a lunch date, I do it! I choose to spent most of my time in pursuits related to my children. " Mother" is my full-time job right now, so I keep my time and interests focused on mothering. I'm currently the PTA president at my neighborhood school and have been part of that organization for nine years. I chose this commitment because I want to be engaged in the education my children receive outside of my home and I want to create nontraditional and unusual educational opportunities for all of the children at the school. This is my chance to influence an entire generation of children who all need a little more love, acceptance, encouragment, and confidence. They need experiences to discover who they are and what they like. I can do this through the PTA organization. I'm also on the Pack Committee of my neighborhood Cub Scout Pack. I love the Boy Scouts of America. I love Cub Scouts. I'm so inspired by this organization and its mission to create amazing men. I want my son to be a part of this organization, so I'm involved to make sure he is too.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because this is God's church on the earth. This church has God's authority to take care of spiritual things here. I read the Book of Mormon. I prayed to Heavenly Father to find out if that book of true. Heavenly Father sent the Holy Ghost to me to tell me it was true. I felt the warm, comforting, confirming feeling that is the presence of the Holy Ghost throughout my entire body very strongly, different than how I feel Him regularly. That was an answer, yes, the Book of Mormon is true. It is another witness of the life of Jesus Christ and teaches that Jesus is my Savior, my Redeemer. I know that. Once I knew this church was Christ's true church on the earth, the real journey started. I had to learn and understand Christ's gospel and, most importantly, how to apply my knowledge in my daily living. How am I impacted because I know this church is true? I try to live Jesus' gospel in my every action, word and thought. I'm not perfect, but Christ doesn't expect perfection - that's why so much of His gospel is about repentance, change, redemption, forgiveness, love. Because I know this is Christ's church, I know the prophet leading the church is Christ's prophet. I can follow his guidance because it comes from Christ. President Monson is the prophet for all of us right now. This knowledge also answered the questions about Joseph Smith. Did he really see God and Jesus as separate people?. Yes, he did. I live a happy life because I'm trying to live the gospel of Jesus Christ, which really is "good news." Good news makes me happy. My mom once told me living the gospel is the happiest lifestyle in the world. In my opinion, she's right. Because I know this is

How I live my faith

I live my faith all day, everywhere. Being a Mormon is as much who I am as what I do. I study the scriptures and pray with my husband and children daily. I want to make sure they are aware Heavenly Father is watching over them all of the time. I volunteer at school, in the Boy Scouts and at church because I know how important it is for me to be a force for good within my circle of influence. Right now, my husband and I teach a weekly Sunday School class about Marriage and Family Relationships. The entire course teaches Heavenly Father's positive and sacred view of marriages and families. I really like this assignment. It's been fun and inspiring to teach this material with my husband. I have had the opportunity to do many things because of my faith. I've been a leader, at different times over the last 20 years, in the children's organization, the young women's organization, and the women's organization (called The Relief Society - you may have heard of it; it is the largest women's organization in the world). I've been invited to sing in different venues and to teach or give speeches for different groups. I often have the chance to use my accounting training by presenting budgeting seminars to youth groups, women's group and even to residents of a local rehabilitation center. My life certainly has not been boring because I'm a Mormon. I love having the chance to use my talents to serve God and to develop new talents while serving Him.
