Hi I'm Melanie

I'm a Mormon. I'm a wife, a mother of 5, a grandmother of 1 (so far!), a musician and a college instructor.

About Me

I am the oldest of 9 children, and love spending time with all of my family whenever possible. I decided to go to college after my 3rd child was 4 years old. I earned a bachelor's degree in Musicology, and had two more children in the process. Eventually I earned a master's degree in Music Theory. I teach Music Theory, Music History, and Voice at the junior college I first attended. I love to sing, play the piano, and talk about my children. I also love to travel, and I am always reading something, especially historical fiction and biographies.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents joined the church when I was a little girl, and I have been blessed to be a member ever since. Being a member of the church brings peace and joy into my life - two things that are hard to find. I have read The Book of Mormon and know that the things it teaches are of God, and that it is true. I know that God lives and loves His children, and is more involved in our lives than we might think. As a mother, I am grateful for the promise that my family can be eternal - that I can have my husband and children with me always, not just for this lifetime. I have read Joseph Smith's record of his first vision, and the spirit has whispered to my heart that it is true.

How I live my faith

I am actively involved in our congregation where I have the wonderful opportunity to work with the youth, specifically the young women aged 12-18. I am amazed by their strength and determination to do what is right in spite of pressures from the world around them. I am so thrilled by their enthusiasm - it makes me more excited to do what is right! I have also had the opportunity to be involved in church music for many years, as a choir director, children's music director, a pianist and an organist. Many of the people I work with are amazed that I serve as a church musician without being paid - but how could I ask for money for serving Heavenly Father's children? If I serve all my life, I can never repay Him for all with which He has blessed me.
